‘New Girl’ Creator Liz Meriwether Is Reportedly Writing Britney Spears’ Biopic and Reuniting the ‘Wicked’ Team

By

Liz Meriwether, who created ‘New Girl’ and wrote the Elizabeth Holmes series ‘The Dropout,’ is reportedly set to write a Universal biopic based on Britney Spears’ 2023 memoir ‘The Woman in Me,’ according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Britney Spears’ ‘The Woman in Me’ sold more than 1.1 million copies in its first week when it landed in 2023, a raw account of her life, her career, and the conservatorship she spent 13 years under.

Jon M. Chu, who directed the two ‘Wicked’ films, would direct. Marc Platt, who produced them, would produce. It’s the same pairing that just turned a Broadway juggernaut into a box office event.

Nothing is locked in yet. Universal hasn’t formally confirmed the project, and the details come from reporting rather than an official announcement. If it holds, the people who made ‘Wicked’ fly will be telling Britney’s story in her own words.
