Nara Smith Shared That Her 2-Year-Old Daughter Is Undergoing Cancer Treatment, and a Message She Hopes Reaches Other Parents
Nara Smith doesn’t usually go quiet. The model and cooking-video creator built a big following on the rhythm of her near-daily posts, so the slowdown got noticed. On July 1, she explained it.
She shared that her and Lucky Blue Smith’s 2-year-old daughter, Whimsy, was diagnosed with cancer late last year and has been going through chemotherapy. “There is no easy way to say this or to talk about any of this,” she said at the top of the video.

She walked through what happened: something suspicious on Whimsy, an ER visit that didn’t produce answers, then the pediatrician. “I don’t know whether it was my gut telling me something or just a mom’s intuition, but the first thing that I felt was she has cancer,” she said. He sent them to the nearest children’s hospital, where x-rays, an ultrasound, and a biopsy confirmed it. Months of hospital time followed, all while she was postpartum and caring for her other young kids at home.

She was clear about why she was sharing any of it. “We wanted to share this to hopefully bring someone else that comfort,” she wrote, or to “incentivize you to go check something out that you’ve been avoiding.” She closed on the part she seemed to want to land most: “I hope that by sharing this I can bring someone a little bit of comfort and make you feel a little less alone.”
