Kristen Stewart’s Next Movie Is an R-Rated Stoner Comedy She Co-Wrote with Her Wife, and Seth Rogen Voices a Talking Cat
Kristen Stewart has spent the last few years building one of the strangest resumes in Hollywood, from playing Princess Diana to a Cronenberg body-horror role. A broad R-rated stoner comedy is new territory even for her.
The film is The Wrong Girls, and she co-wrote it with Dylan Meyer, the director, who is also her wife. The setup follows two broke best friends whose lives collapse into a mistaken-identity scramble after an experiment goes wrong. Alia Shawkat plays the other half of the duo, and the rest of the cast reads like a comedy all-star game: Kate McKinnon, LaKeith Stanfield, Geena Davis, and Seth Rogen as the voice of a talking cat.

The bigger deal might be where it’s landing. NEON is giving the movie a full theatrical release on August 14, which has become rare for adult comedies now that studios tend to route them straight to streaming. This one is betting people will still turn up to a theater to laugh with a crowd.
Nobody has seen the finished film yet. But the pitch, the cast, and the fact that it’s actually playing on the big screen make it one of the more interesting comedy swings of the summer.
