King Charles Offered Prince Harry a Place to Stay During His UK Visit. His Side Says He’d Already Accepted When the Palace Pulled the Offer
Harry landed in Britain this week without Meghan, Archie, or Lilibet, after RAVEC, the committee that handles royal security, declined to protect them. King Charles had offered his son a room at a royal residence, and Harry spent last week arranging his own security so the trip could happen at all. Once that was in place, his side says he formally accepted the offer over the weekend.
Then it was pulled. In a statement, his spokesperson said: “Once those arrangements were in place, he was able to formally accept the offer of accommodation for himself over the weekend. It is therefore disappointing that the offer has now been withdrawn.”

Prince Harry stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and handed back the keys to Frogmore Cottage, which left him without an official residence in the country he grew up in. He and Prince William haven’t spoken in years.
He flew back this week for Invictus Games events marking one year until the 2027 Games in Birmingham, along with charity work tied to the 20th anniversary of the WellChild Nurse programme and Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Meghan and the children stayed in California after RAVEC declined to provide their security.
King Charles had offered his son accommodation at a royal residence. According to Harry’s spokesperson, once the prince had arranged alternative security for the trip, he accepted the offer for himself over the weekend, only for it to be withdrawn at the last moment, which his side called disappointing.

The Palace tells a different version. Sources say Harry never confirmed by an end-of-week deadline, and that he was informed Saturday evening he couldn’t stay. By the time his team accepted, they say there wasn’t time to arrange staffing and hospitality. Some briefings also pointed to optics, with the King staying neutral ahead of an imminent court judgment.

That judgment comes Tuesday, in Harry’s privacy case against Associated Newspapers Limited, the publisher of the Daily Mail. Harry’s team notes the Palace had been aware of the judgment since the previous Thursday, which is why they say it’s unclear why the offer was pulled only after he had formally accepted.
