Olivia Wilde directed and stars in “The Invite”, and Harry Styles showed up in São Paulo to watch it while he’s in Brazil for his Together, Together tour.
The film premiered at Sundance in January and opened wider through late June and early July, a remake of the Spanish film “The People Upstairs” that turns a dinner party into a sex comedy about marriage, jealousy, and midlife want. Wilde directs and stars alongside Seth Rogen, Penélope Cruz, and Edward Norton.

Early reviews have been strong (one aggregator clocked it at 96% on Rotten Tomatoes), with the Los Angeles Times and Den of Geek calling it “beguiling” and “the event of summer” and a confident return to form for Wilde behind the camera.
An eyewitness told Entertainment Tonight that he arrived “very discreetly with two security guards,” then was the first person out of the theater the moment it ended.
The Invite is Wilde’s first feature as a director since Don’t Worry Darling in 2022, the 1950s-set psychological thriller where Styles played the male lead Jack Chambers opposite Florence Pugh. Their real-life relationship reportedly started on that set. The movie itself got mixed reviews and was swallowed by the drama around it: Shia LaBeouf’s exit from Styles’s role, rumors of a Wilde-Pugh rift, and a press tour dominated by tabloid coverage of all of it.
Styles has barely acted since (his other 2022 film was My Policeman), focusing on music and this tour. Wilde has kept acting in projects like Babylon but hadn’t directed again until now.
The two dated from 2020 to 2022. In a recent interview, Wilde called their relationship “loving and wonderful and joyful.”
