Alexa Demie Hints the Euphoria Finale Isn’t Happy but Is “Close” as Fan Theories Demand a Thelma and Louise Exit
The theory took over Euphoria fan spaces after the May 24 episode “Rain or Shine,” when Maddy slapped Cassie, told her “I should have never let you back into my life,” then ended up holding her over Nate’s snake-bitten corpse.
MadCassie shippers read the whole sequence (rage, grief, the refusal to actually let go of each other) as the show finally admitting Maddy and Cassie are the real love story, not anything either of them had with Nate.
The finale preview poured gasoline on it. The “you and me, we was meant to be” voiceover, the shots of both women looking hollow, the police closing in, and the “One Mississippi” countdown all read as a setup for either a joint escape or a joint exit.
Fans are now openly asking for a Thelma and Louise homage in the May 31 finale, “In God We Trust.” The pitches range from Maddy and Cassie killing Alamo and disappearing into the desert with his money, to a shootout they don’t walk away from, to one sacrificing herself after they finally say what they’ve been circling for three seasons.
Alexa Demie has already hinted the ending isn’t happy but is “close.” Whether Sam Levinson gives the fandom the cliff or subverts it is the biggest question heading into Sunday.
