The news can often be overwhelming. It’s common knowledge that, more often than not, stories of horror and heartache will splash across our screens more so than those of hope and joy. This cycle of negativity doesn’t change during an election season – if anything, the political news cycle can bring out the worst in one another. It can feel downright daunting, and paralyzing, and altogether depressing. Elections can be confusing, too. In an era where information is shared as quickly as we breathe, just seeking out information can feel like an impossible task.

But where does one look? What to read? What to listen to? Who’s right? Who’s wrong? What’s a fact? What’s an opinion?

It’s as if the questions will never cease, and the answers can often feel out of our grasp.

But don’t panic. There are reputable news sources out there that will deliver the facts, informed opinions, and a dose of humor to go right along with it.

Here are five news sources for those who wish to stay politically engaged:

Axios

Axios is an American news website founded in 2016 by former Politico staffers Jim VandeHei, Mike Allen, and Roy Schwartz, and it officially launched in 2017. If you love reading about news – this is for you. They tell it like it is – and do not sugarcoat or spin the facts for more clicks or shares. What you read is what you get.

Stay Tuned With Preet

If you’re more into podcasts that you are reading newspaper articles, I’d highly recommend this podcast hosted by Preet Bharara, who was U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York until President Trump fired him in 2017. He is measured, he is balanced, and he tells the truth – even if it’s not something you want to hear.

If you’re unsure of your voter registration status, the process, or where to even go to cat your ballot – this is the website for you. When We All Vote is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization with a wonderful mission – to increase participation in elections. Politico

Politico is an American political opinion company that covers politics and policy in the United States and internationally. Content can be found on a variety of mediums: website copy, television, printed newspapers, radio, and podcasts. One thing in particular that I love about Politico is how they will fact check live debates and speeches that occur. It’s a great resource to have to dig through some of the theatrics that can inevitably happen on live television events.

The Daily Podcast by the New York Times

If you don’t have an incredible amount of time to dedicate to political podcasts, or if listening to the news for more than an hour a day gives you anxiety, I give you – The Daily Podcast by the New York Times. Twenty minutes a day, five days a week, hosted by Michael Barbaro and powered by New York Times journalism, it’s more facts and less opinion.
