In the Wilderness of Pennsylvania
This evening, a series of photographs over at Tiny Vices caught my attention. These shots, taken by Sean Stewart, showed frame houses perched high atop concrete reinforced hillsides, cannibalized muscle cars covered in primer and body putty, and gray overcast skies that reminded me of every winter I’ve ever known.
It took less than a second for my mind to register that these were scenes from Pennsylvania, the state I’ve called home since forever. Taken in winter, these photographs represent the brutal images that I dread as winter approaches each year. They ooze with the biting cold and dead wood indifference I begrudgingly embrace as everything around me dies. Over the years, so many people have told me they love living here because we get to experience all four seasons. But I never believe those people.
