When You Need to Remember There is Good, Read This

Sometimes, seemingly more often than not, it seems like the world around us is burning. Life always seems to happen at the worst times and sometimes you’re going to question whether or not you’re going to make it through this. You’ll look around and wonder if there is anything left that is good in the world. I am here to tell you that there are still loads of good in this world, darling.

The world often feels like a cesspool of negativity; a deep, dark pit; an insurmountable mountain.

You don’t have to face this world alone. Reach out to people in your community. Talk to someone face to face. Smile at people you pass. Introduce yourself to your neighbors. Do good, and you will start to see the good as well.

It’s easy to focus on the bad. In the era of social media and technology at our fingertips, we get bombarded with information, and most of the time, the bad stories are what spread the fastest. It’s okay to step away. It’s okay to put your head in the sand while you allow yourself time to heal.

It’s even easier to focus on the bad when we are aware of just how good it can be. When we remember “the good old days,” when we try so hard to get something back that we didn’t really want in the first place, when we know that the good is great, the bad becomes unbearable.

But, there is still good in this world, darling.

It’s the way your dog looks at you when you get home after a long day, and how they are never mad at you for leaving, just happy that you’re back.

It’s the love a mother feels after months of trying to have a baby, nourishing that baby, and then finally getting to meet that little bundle.

It’s the feeling you get when you hold someone’s hand for the first time. An action so simple and pure, but surprisingly intimate, letting you know, “We’re in this together.”

It’s the marriage that lasts 50 years, despite the bad that they experienced, they’re still so in love.

It’s the infectious air of hope when you go to a wedding. The love in the eyes of the newlyweds, and the sense of pride in their families.

It’s the forgiveness that we see everyday, in small ways, “I’m sorry that I offended you.” And in big ways, “I’m so sorry that I lied to you.” “I forgive you.” And it’s making up after the fights and beyond the forgiveness.

It’s the people who run into the fire, who throw themselves in front of the danger, who save the life of the person who wronged them.

There is good everywhere, darling.

There is light at the end of the tunnel. There is sunshine at the end of a storm. There is happiness beyond all the sadness.

It’s coming out of something stronger than you were before. Wondering how on earth you could have possibly managed to be so strong for so long, yet somehow, you’re still here. The world is still turning, and there is still so much good left in the world, darling. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
