Maybe.
This is the word that seems innocent enough, but screams opportunity.
Maybe you should’ve said those words before he left.
If the timing was right, maybe you would’ve ventured out of your comfort zone.
Maybe the whole situation was an act unfolding right in front of your eyes.
And, maybe you even used ‘maybe’ to make excuses for not taking action.
Maybe it wasn’t meant to be. It’s the easy way out; nothing would be lost.
But then again, nothing would be gained, either.
So you let those crafty maybes slip away.
Floating somewhere along the winds, never within grasp.
Like a dandelion seed travelling through the air;
Wishful thinking that refuses to part.
And softly, entering the room,
Through half-hearted footsteps,
You proceed to perform the procedure:
Smothering the elephant –
Until it is no more.
Don’t look back.
Don’t break down.
Don’t even think about reliving the past.
Just head back down the same path,
Retracing those chimerical footsteps. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
