4 Life Lessons We Can All Learn From The Kardashians
Life must go on and new memories can be cultivated. Change is okay. Change is healthy.

Sometimes, however, I do succumb to reality television (such a fun guilty pleasure), and I sincerely look forward to watching Keeping Up With The Kardashians every Sunday night. The show details their vacations (note: The Greek islands are absolutely breathtaking), their milestones, their stressors, and all those slice-of-life moments in between. Within their dynamic, one could gauge that they’re people, trying to navigate their way, just like the rest of us.
Here are 4 life lessons we can learn from the Kardashian family:
1. Let go of fear and accept that things change.
On their exotic vacation to Thailand (also absolutely breathtaking), Kris Kardashian encouraged the family to engage in a “letting go” exercise. They all proclaimed what they’re “letting go of,” as lanterns symbolically drifted away, into the night sky. Kris hoped to let go of the fear that things are no longer how they once were.
After Kris’s 22-year-old marriage to Bruce Jenner disintegrated, Bruce has been living on his own, while still seeing his children and maintaing an amicable relationship with Kris. Of course the past may give way to fondness and nostalgia, but I thought Kris’s words were wise — let go of fear and embrace the now. Life must go on and new memories can be cultivated. Change is okay. Change is healthy.
2. We can’t save others.
Khloe Kardashian, who recently sifted through an ugly divorce, has had to carry a decent amount of guilt over her ex-husband’s behavior. He struggled with the woes of addiction, but unfortunately, as much as she tried to help, he ultimately has to help himself.
Khloe felt responsible for her younger brother’s emotional turmoil as well. Rob Kardashian suffers from low self-esteem and chronic depression, and it’s certainly heartbreaking, to say the least. However, she can’t save him — she came to the realization that she has to discard her guilt and sense of responsibility to “fix” others; she cannot eradicate their wounds.
3. Confront pain in order to move forward.
Kourtney’s boyfriend and father of her two children, Scott Disick, lost his parents this past year. He’s renowned for abusing alcohol and it was clear that everyone was expecting he would turn to alcohol to cope during this time of distress. Kourtney suggested they spend the summer in the Hamptons — where Scott’s family resided — a place rooted in many childhood memories, and where Scott could fully mourn his parents. It was a wise decision on Kourtney’s part; Scott needed to process his feelings and deal with the pain, constructively, with the support of his loved ones by his side.
4. Be there for your loved ones.:
Through the petty arguments and the not-so-petty ones, strained conversations, relationship conflicts and sisterly drama, this family is there for one another. At the end of the day, they’re always ready to lift each other up after a hard fall.
Keeping Up With The Kardashians doesn’t have to be “throw away” television; as the family bravely exposes their vulnerabilities, faults and personal experiences, they strike chords within us too.
