Every December Hits Me With The Loss Of You

Isn't it cruel how time seems to change everything except for our love affair with the past.

Hearing your whispers in the wind
I cover my ears
and tell you it’s only the cold
that makes me feel this way.

You know me better than most
and you tease and taunt me
making me wish for snow
to permanently freeze you out.

I think back to earlier Decembers
when all I needed was
you as my fireplace
to warm up my bones.

I think back to earlier Decembers
when all I needed was
you as my sweater
to cover all my ugly parts.

Isn’t it cruel how
time seems to change everything
except for our love affair
with the past.

Isn’t it funny how
seasons progress and
flowers bloom
but we are all still permanently
stuck at eighteen.

Isn’t it a tragedy
to think that after all this time
I still need the warmth
of your hand wrapped in mine. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
