This Is Why You Always Deserve Love (Even When You Don’t Feel Lovable)

You deserve love on the days when you can't get up in the morning and spend the day questioning your self-worth. You deserve love when you allow yourself to grieve unapologetically and without shame. You deserve love when you cry for the past, longing for something greater than what once was.

I know you don’t think you deserve love sometimes. Especially in times of struggle, in times of heartache and in times of loneliness. It’s easy to beat yourself up whenever you are feeling down; or feeling like life isn’t going the way you thought it would go, but does struggling mean you don’t deserve love from yourself or someone else?

Some days are harder than others. Some days it feels like getting out of bed is the equivalent to running a marathon. Some days even being surrounded by others feels lonely. Some days, you don’t feel like being an adult and going to school or to your eight hour job. And some days you don’t feel good enough for anyone, or good enough for yourself. Life is going to give you days where you feel ugly in whatever you are wearing — even after changing seven times. Life is going to give you days where your losses feel so significant that you don’t know when you’ll be able to go on. And life is going to hand you days where your heart is going to rip into pieces and you’ll feel like you won’t ever feel good again.

It is in these times, the hard ones, where you deserve love the most. Because, in these moments you are the most human, the most unedited version of yourself and the most authentic. In these moments, you are a raw, hurting and breathing person. You don’t fake a smile or pretend you’re ok. You are deep and shallow breaths wanting to come alive and to be filled with something more.

You deserve love on the days when you can’t get up in the morning and spend the day questioning your self-worth. You deserve love when you allow yourself to grieve unapologetically and without shame. You deserve love when you cry for the past, longing for something greater than what once was.

No one goes through life with a smile on their face every day. No one feels a hundred percent confident in themselves all of the time. Even if sometimes you feel weak and beat down, don’t hide it from the world and don’t hide it from yourself. You can’t be the best you can be all the time. You can’t do everything people ask you to do all the time. And that’s okay. Because in this moment and second, you are breathing and feeling. And sometimes, that is all you can do and all you can be.

It is a lifelong journey learning to love yourself and really believing that you deserve something magical. But in these dark moments, days, and months please understand that you are always worth loving. You are worth more than your dark days and dark nights. You are worth more than how you treat yourself. And you one hundred percent deserve the kind of love that people write poems about and you deserve the kind of love that finally makes you believe in it again. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
