Breaking up with friends is the worst.

Breaking up with friends is the worst.

When it first happens, you can’t believe what just happened. The person whom you called one of your best friends, shared countless memories with for years, has changed into a person who you don’t know anymore. It’s upsetting to watch the breakup happen right in front of you. When this happens, it’s necessary to go through the stages of emotions. Shock is happening, then the anger comes, because things didn’t work out between the two of you. Then comes self-doubt and wondering if you did the right thing. The last stage is finally accepting the fact that it is indeed over, and asking yourself how you will move forward and how you will heal from losing someone who was once so close to you. They took a part of your heart in the breakup.

You will never be the same after something like this happens because it changes you. Sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. It forever changes how you will view friendships moving forward in your life. The healing process may take weeks, even months, but it has to happen.

That’s the only way to move past this, and to begin becoming the person you want to be.

You can be someone without your former bestie by your side. It’s hard, but it’s necessary. Once you do all of these things, after a while the pain of this breakup will fade. The ache of them not being in your life will teach you a valuable lesson. You will start to see the light at the end of the tunnel. You will start to feel like yourself again.

Instead of having a dark cloud of the breakup, you will find those true friends that will help you feel like you can get through this without feeling you’re in this alone. That is what it feels like to break up with a best friend. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
