It’s not everyday you read a blog post about someone admitting they have failed, especially now that the trend is to be “successful while you’re young”. But, being a 20-something doesn’t require you to know everything about life.

You are still learning. Of course, talking about failure seems to be taboo. But you must know it is only through failure that you learn to realize how far you’ve come, and how much you need to challenge yourself.

You need to accept that your shortcomings do not, and will never define who you are. It is about how you will over come every single challenge that will eventually lead to the path of finally achieving your goal.

1. There’s nothing wrong with letting go of things. Sometimes you forget that your mental and emotional baggage pull you down from being the person you’ve always wanted to be. You must know that there is nothing wrong in letting go of things, people, fears, and insecurities. If it gets toxic in the process, you need to be strong enough to accept that you have to put our growth first. Sometimes there’s also good in letting go.

2. It’s going to be painful in the process, and that’s why it’s worth it. You deserve to be having a hard time, to be struggling your way through every single day, because there’s no other way to make you realize how much you want our dreams to come true. It may be emotionally, mentally, and financially draining. But at the end of the day, it is always your dream, and you have to fight for it.

3. Learn to adjust your methods, but stick to your dream. It may not work out in one university, but it doesn’t mean you have to let go of your dream. One school cannot hinder you from making your dreams come true. Continue to walk that #RoadToMD, or whatever career path you dream of, because trust me, it’s always how much you want it that will make you win.

4. Not everyone can say no, learn to accept defeat. You need a huge amount of courage to know how to say no, because as cliché as it may get, life is never going to be fair. Learn to accept defeat. If you know you’ve done everything to make things possible, but it wasn’t given to you on a silver platter, then maybe there’s a more wonderful opportunity that’s going to come your way. Learn to accept, and learn when to stop, cause even if it’s hard for you, and everyone else, things will eventually fall into place.

5. Never lose confidence in yourself. Do not let your insecurities eat you up, you may not be graduating on time, you may be the only person in your group of friends who doesn’t have a job yet, you may have been the lowest in your Chemistry final exam, but it doesn’t mean the world is going to end. Always believe in yourself, always have confidence in what you do, always keep yourself optimistic, because as hard as it may be, your life cannot be compared to anyone else. Stories are made different, so believe in what you can do.

6. Sleep it off. Ted Mosby knows it best, “Nothing good happens after 2AM.” Every day is a clean slate, and as much as you want to think deeply about your mistakes in the past, regrets are nothing but pieces of shit combined to fuck with you when you have nothing else to do. Sleep it off. You just need to rest.

7. The Universe always has a better plan. You may question it from time to time, but the Universe has a better plan. It always has. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
