1. “You have to stop worrying. You have to take life one step at a time. No one is rushing you.”

Mom never failed to remind me that life is a process, and the more we rush it, the more we forget the essence of living.

2. “If you feel sleepy, take a nap. It’s not like it’s going to cost you anything. Take care of your health, and the grades will follow.”

Mom explained that it’s inevitable to be sleep deprived in college. Thus, why it is harder for students to understand lessons. So it’s better to sleep than to keep yourself in the verge of always breaking down.

3. Some people are meant to be a pain in the ass so that you can learn how to be patient.”

Whenever I rant to her about certain people that piss me off, mom never ceased to remind me that all of us have roles to play in society. And apparently, these people exist to help us practice patience.

4. “If you have nothing nice to say, keep your mouth shut.”

Word.

5. “Be nice and never hesitate to appreciate everyone around you. Always aim for good karma.”

Another for the books.

6. “I don’t believe in ‘if it’s meant for you it’s meant for you’. You work hard, and set your mind to your goals. Focus on what you want and want it like your life depends on it.”

Mom believed that there’s no such thing as luck. You become lucky sometimes, sure. But the possibility of you getting what you want is much higher if you worked hard for it, and you set your mind to attaining it.

7. “It’s called law of attraction. If you want good vibes, then think of happy thoughts. If you rant, you will only attract bad energy.”

Basic. Stop attracting bad energy by being a bad juju.

8. “Always remember that money is never an issue. If you make money an issue, everything around you will be stressful. Make making yourself intelligent an issue, so you can learn to appreciate even the littlest knowledge.”

Mom often reiterated that people who are so problematic when it comes to money doesn’t appreciate the things that actually matter. So she asked me to become more intelligent and smart because then, I’ll learn how to appreciate every single peso and stop ranting about it.

9. “Stop stressing out the little things. You know you’re better than that.”

Always. Her. Mantra. Because we are really better than what we think. We are the ones controlling ourselves after all.

10. “Always remember that everyone is struggling. You’re not the center of the universe. Eat your food, and stop complaining about traffic.”

Guess we all have that “selfish” phase, and I’m just glad my mom slapped me back into reality before it’s too late. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
