5 New Year’s Resolutions That Don’t Cost A Dime
When you wake up and get ready to go about your day, look at yourself in the mirror and give yourself a compliment.

As 2019 winds down, I’m sure there are many people who are already thinking about what their New Year’s Resolutions are going to be for the new year.
A lot of people might also think that you have to spend a ton of money to accomplish those resolutions, but you don’t. In fact, here are five resolutions you can make that won’t have you reaching for your wallet.
1. Read more.
Reading isn’t for everybody, and that’s okay. In 2020, make a resolution to read more. Or, if reading really isn’t your thing, listen to audiobooks at home, in the car, or wherever you are most comfortable. Pick up (or listen to) a book or magazine that interests you and read/listen to it for at least 30 minutes a day. Most books cost money, but go to your local library and browse their books or find bins with free books to indulge in. You’ll be surprised by how fast that 30 minutes goes by!
2. Compliment yourself every day (and give someone else a compliment while you’re at it).
When you wake up and get ready to go about your day, look at yourself in the mirror and give yourself a compliment. Give yourself a compliment and mean it! Embrace it! To take it a step further, give a compliment to a complete stranger. You never know what that compliment will do for their confidence and self-esteem.
3. Take more naps.
Whenever you have free time and need to recharge your batteries, take a nap. You’ll wake up feeling refreshed and probably in a much better mood. So don’t be afraid to get in your comfy clothes, grab your softest blanket and snooze for a while!
4. Write down your thoughts in a journal.
Just like reading, you don’t have to be a perfect writer. This is your personal journal so no one except you should see what you write in it. I’ve found that writing in a journal is a great way to vent about a stressful day at work or even talk about something really exciting going on in my life. So don’t worry about whether or not you are a good writer—just let the pen and paper do the talking.
5. Go on a walk.
This can be around your neighborhood, at a local track, the gym, or even in nature. Get outside and enjoy some fresh air (weather permitting, obviously). Find a nature trail that you enjoy and grab a friend or take a solo walk through the woods. You never know what kind of wildlife you’ll find!
