After being caught twice on camera for speeding, a woman in Ireland avoided paying the fines by blaming her husband—who’d died of cancer a year earlier.

This all happened in 2008, but the woman, Katherine Goodman, finally got nabbed after recently applying for a passport in her dead husband’s name using the photo of a guy she’d met in Spain.

When Goodwin was dragged before a judge for falsifying passport applications, her lawyer attempted to explain that her dead husband had been cheap and overbearing, that he’d left her in debt and she was therefore very depressed and “not thinking clearly,” although she seemed to have been thinking clearly enough to blame him for two speeding tickets and to use his name six years after he died to apparently try and get some Spanish lover a fake passport.

She was sentenced to six months in jail. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
