Getting back into the dating game after a breakup can be both exhausting and exciting. You know you’re not ready for a relationship, but you don’t really mind playing the field. In fact, you’re certain about what you want — casual drinks, casual hook ups…”casual” is suddenly a big word in your life. As long as you don’t cross that line, you’re fine in your rebound bubble. But what happens when someone comes along that makes you question your boundaries? Someone who makes you want to loosen the reigns a little. Is he just a rebound? A transition from emotional disaster? Or is he the real thing?

There are certain ways to tell you are falling fast and hard. You’ve been here before, but it’s funny how you forget what it feels like. Maybe because it’s different every time. Maybe because no guy before him has ever meant so much. Whatever the reason, when you find yourself suddenly thinking constantly about someone who was meant to be “casual”, here are 10 signs that might indicate it’s much more than that.

He does everything better than your ex

It’s impossible not to compare. Instead of doing everything to make you feel insecure and neglected, he does everything to make you feel wanted and safe. He plays with your hair, tickles your skin as you’re lying next to each other. After making you dinner, he asks if he can cut your sandwich in half because it’s too big to eat whole. Sweet things you didn’t really think guys did, he does.

You miss him

He talks to you all the time, so when you haven’t heard from him for a few hours, or you go a few days without seeing him, you genuinely miss him. And the best part—he misses you too.

You are yourself around him

Your guard is down, the front is off. For the first time in a long time, or maybe ever, you aren’t afraid to be the real you. Instead of feeling embarrassed, you laugh when he asks if your stomach growl was a fart. You are more open with him than you ever thought you could be with a new guy.

He actually picks up the phone and calls you

And you aren’t afraid to talk to him because it’s always easy.

But the text game is still so good

When he does text you, you constantly find yourself smiling at your phone like an idiot. It doesn’t matter what he says, hearing from him just makes you happy.

You literally do not get tired of him

When you spend time together, you never want it to end. It doesn’t matter if you’re doing something or nothing, you genuinely enjoy his company and want him around all the time.

Annoying things are somehow really cute

He snores and keeps you awake. But you’d still rather be next to him. He always drops food on his clothes, but you just hand him an extra napkin and smile. You realize there isn’t much that he could do to turn you off because you love everything about him.

You talk about him – a lot

You realize you’re possibly becoming that annoying person that never shuts up about a guy.

When something good happens, he’s the first person you want to share it with.

He wants to wait to have sex

And you realize you’re okay with that. But once you do have sex, nothing changes. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
