LADIES: SNL Hires Black Female Cast Member And Janet Yellen Confirmed As Fed Chairperson

Polar Vortex (hey, didn’t I see them open for Flaming Lips?) might be bringing the icy hammer of Hoth down upon half of North America right now, but do you know for whom today didn’t suck Frosty’s balls? Women. There were a few perky (they had good support) moments for women in the news today. Here we go:

SNL finally pulled their heads out of their asses and hired a black female cast member for the first time in an embarrassingly long time. Her name is Sasheer Zamata, and here’s what we know so far: She’s 27 (which also happens to be my age so I will now commence drinking to dull the pain of my comparative lack of achievement), has been doing standup in NYC for the past 4 years, has appeared on “Inside Amy Schumer” and “Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell” (two of the funniest and smartest shows on TV right now) and is really pretty. Huzzah! Well done, SNL. It only took the entire internet berating the shit out of you for you do make a painfully obvious addition to your cast.

Janet Yellen (What’s Janet Yellen’ about? ZING.), Obama’s nominee for chairman – ahem, chairperson – of the Federal Reserve, was confirmed by the Senate today, making her the first woman to ever hold that position. In case you slept through your economy class (respect), the Federal Reserve is a private central bank that loans the US all of its money. It’s a weird and vaguely corrupt system but it’s a mighty powerful institution and for the first time, a woman is running the show, so even though it’s likely to stay as weird and corrupt as ever, we can at least celebrate this moment from a feminist perspective. Double huzzah! I hope Sasheer Zamata plays her in a sketch to commemorate this day. TC Mark
