Rand Paul’s Committee Just Voted to Hold 85-Year-Old Anthony Fauci in Contempt of Congress

A Senate committee led by Rand Paul has voted to hold Anthony Fauci in contempt of Congress, escalating a years-long clash over how the former public health official ran the country’s Covid response.

The committee’s vote asks the Justice Department to take Fauci’s case from here. At 85, Fauci now faces a referral that puts the matter in the hands of federal prosecutors.

The move follows testimony last week in which Fauci pleaded the Fifth to dozens of questions rather than answer for how he handled the pandemic.

Paul, the senator who has spent years vowing to see Fauci prosecuted, now has the votes to send the case to the Justice Department.
