A bill backed by New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani could upend the way Amazon runs its delivery network in the city — and the company is signaling it might walk away rather than comply.
Right now the drivers in blue Amazon vests don’t actually work for Amazon. They work for small contractors, and when a van’s brakes fail or a driver collapses in the heat, Amazon gets to say it isn’t their employee.
A bill Mamdani backs would end that. Amazon says it might pull its warehouses out of the five boroughs rather than take the workers on.
