“I Wasn’t Married To A Monster. I Was Married to Someone Who Got Sick.” — Patrick Clancy
Patrick Clancy came home on January 24, 2023 to find his three children strangled with exercise bands. His wife, Lindsay, a 32-year-old labor-and-delivery nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital, was on the ground outside the house after cutting her neck and wrists and jumping from an upstairs window. She survived, paralyzed. Cora, 5, and Dawson, 3, were pronounced dead that night. Callan, 8 months, died days later.
He said the line above to The New Yorker’s Eren Orbey for an October 2024 feature, his first substantial interview about the case. Four days after the killings, with Callan still in the hospital, he had already gone public on a GoFundMe page: “I want to ask all of you that you find it deep within yourselves to forgive Lindsay, as I have.”
Lindsay had sought treatment starting around September 2022 and was diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder. Reports describe roughly a dozen psychiatric medications over several months, insomnia, intrusive thoughts of harm coming to the children, ER visits, and a five-day stay at McLean Hospital in early January 2023. No provider diagnosed postpartum psychosis at the time.

She has admitted the killings and pleaded not guilty, with her defense arguing lack of criminal responsibility due to postpartum psychosis, undiagnosed bipolar disorder, and command hallucinations. The trial began in Plymouth Superior Court around July 20, 2026, where Patrick was the prosecution’s first witness and testified over two days. He now lives in New York and has remarried.
