Trump Was Asked How Mitch Mcconnell Is Doing After 3 Weeks in the Hospital. “I Have No Idea How He’s Doing.”

McConnell has been in the hospital since June 14, and he hasn’t been seen in public since. The president, asked for an update on his fellow Republican, said he knew nothing at all.

Mitch McConnell was hospitalized on June 14 for an ailment his office has never named, and nearly a month later there’s still no public sign of him.

Trump was asked about the senator’s status aboard Air Force One on Wednesday night. His full answer: “No, I have no idea. I have no idea how he’s doing.”

The 84-year-old’s office has said only that he’s improving and working with staff on Kentucky and Senate matters while the chamber is out of session. Early reports said paramedics found a person “unconscious” at an address linked to McConnell.

The silence has fed weeks of online theories, some claiming McConnell has died and that the government is hiding it. On CNN, commentator Scott Jennings said he spoke with the senator by phone from the hospital for 20 minutes, then laughed off the suggestion McConnell call in live to prove it.

McConnell’s wife, former transportation secretary Elaine Chao, kept a long-planned trip to China through the health scare. A spokesperson said his condition “did not warrant an immediate return to the US.”
