I Felt Warm When I Saw It Die

a Bird died today.

It flattened against a cloud and left a dotted path down
with its black feathers.
I swear it almost melted in the core of the earth.

It covered the yellow lines on the road like black paint.
Splattered spread and stuck.

Should have been a seagull to land in the sea foam
Well,
Nature doesn’t like dark where the light shines it dims.

Now it lies on the road on its back.
Both black.
Both flat.
and the world is back to normal. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
