Today Is The One Year Anniversary Of #BringBackOurGirls And Most Still Aren’t Home
You’ll recall the explosion of hashtag activism from last April that made #BringBackOurGirls an international phenomenon. It was in response to the kidnapping of 300 Nigerian school girls by the Islamic extremist group Boko Haram which finds safe haven in Northern Nigeria. Well, today, one year later, only roughly a third of those girls have been recovered with the rest either still missing without a trace, sold into slavery, living in slavery, or having been used in a number of other unthinkable ways.
And although the Nigerian government has taken some steps to combat Boko Haram (electing a new President and hiring White South African mercenaries) the groups still operates with relative impunity in the North of the country.
