85% Of Women Feel Workplaces Aren’t Sexist

Well, this is stunning. Admittedly, I don’t exactly follow polls for this kind of thing but it appears that the popular conception that woman feel universally discriminated against in the work place is actually untrue.  I’m not kidding when I say that I would have thought it would be the other way around. Take a look:

So, there’s a 15% difference between Conservative and Liberal women. I’m surprised it’s that close actually. What’s even sort of more amazing is that the difference between the age groups 18 to 49 and 50+ is only 3%.

This sort of screws with my head because the general narrative that I’ve become acclimated to is that gender discrimination in the workplace goes hand in hand with being a woman. But this poll says that’s not so. In fact, it seems to indicate that it’s mostly not true by a large majority and these are self assessments.

I have to wonder what’s going on here. Is this a product of looking back through rosy glasses? I would think that sort of thing would leave a lingering sting especially from the stories I’ve heard from female friends who’ve experienced discrimination in their jobs. Is this a squeaky wheel gets the grease kind of thing where discrimination cases simply garner a lot more attention and therefore give the impression that they are representative of the whole? Or, is it just me? Am I the only one who thought women felt more discrimination in the workplace?

Regardless, if the poll is accurate, and it seems to be given the methodology used, then this is something to feel fairly good about especially since self identified ‘Moderates’ feel unmolested at a rate of 87%.
