A few days ago we reported that predator clowns have been spotted in a Greenville, South Carolina apartment complex.

Residents reported that clowns were pursuing their children — often flashing laser pointers at them, stalking them around the premise, and trying to use money to lure them into the woods. The story got national attention after the apartment complex issued a eerie warning to their residents:

To The Residents of Fleetwood Manor

There has been several conversations and a lot of complaints to the office regarding a clown or a person dressed in clown clothing taking children or trying to lure children in the woods. First and foremost at Fleetwood Manor Apartments children’s safety is a top priority. At no time should a child be alone at night, or walking in the roads or wooded areas at night. Also if a person or persons are seen you are to immediately call the police.

Greenville County Police Department is aware of the situation and have been riding the property daily. Remember there is a 10pm curfew for the property so to ensure your children’s safety please keep them in the house during night hours and make sure at ALL times children are supervised. Anymore information that becomes regarding this issue will be sent out to all residents.

Thank you,

Property Manager

This letter was followed by numerous reassurances from the police that they would capture those responsible. However, that hasn’t happened yet, and the clowns seem to be spreading.

Reports have come in from Greenville that clowns are now harassing residents by knocking on their doors, and hanging out closer to the condos by the basketball courts. Police have responded to numerous calls now involving the clowns. The reports coming in — even from accredited news outlets — are vague and scattered. Police claim to have investigated that gun shots have been fired at the clowns, and another report indicates that a gang of children tried to fight back by chasing a clown out of the complex grounds.

Numerous children in the area have claimed that the clown lives in an abandoned home in the woods. Police have not been able to substantiate this.

However, the sightings are no longer isolated to Greenville.

The Spartanburg police department has confirmed that they too have begun responding to reports of disturbing clowns. Spartanburg is roughly 40 minutes away from Greenville, making the behavior even more disturbing.

A woman at the Canaan Pointe Apartments in Spartanburg claimed that a clown was idly standing in her backyard, gazing up at her house. She tried to take a picture of him, but it was too grainy to make out.

And the clown terror may be appearing elsewhere, too

In my hometown of Columbus, Ohio there has also been a clown sighting — but this one is slightly more grisly. A 14-year-old boy reports that as he walked home from school he was attacked by a clown with a knife.

The boy told his teachers and police that he threw a rock at the clown and ran to the safety of his bus stop.

At this time, no arrests of any clowns (in any of the three different locations) have been made. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
