“For lack of a better term, he was black, roughly six-foot, two twenty, had a shaved head.”
“Well the Christopher Harris I worked with is an imposter then. And you have your first major suspect.”
I looked over to Peter who looked to be struggling with words.
“What time is it?” I asked.
Peter looked at his cell phone.
“One-fifty-seven. A.M.”
I was Google researching as fast as I possibly could as Peter was drove us around campus like a mad man. In the five minutes or so it took us to drive from Peter’s home to campus, Google had already produced a treasure trove of information about the Christopher Harris I worked with, or Samson Shugert.
I relayed information to Peter as we drove.
“There’s an article on Deadspin dot com from a few years ago that talks about a guy named Samson Shugert who was joining Wisconsin alumni Facebook groups and going to alumni events claiming to be Christopher Harris. Apparently someone outed him a few years ago, but it didn’t make many headlines. The story says Shugert was simply a lonely fan who wanted the identity of being a former college football player.
Peter whipped swiftly around a turn and I almost fell out of the passenger seat.
