At The End Of The Day, It’s Your Life And Your Happiness

Your own happiness should be your priority. Forget everyone else.

Growing up adults felt the need to lecture you about everything in life. Since they are more senior than you, you have to take their word as the holy grail. If you don’t, they’ll say you are being disrespectful. They don’t realize that their experiences are different from us millennials simply because their days back then were vastly different from our present situations. They say millennials are lazy but millennials work twice as hard and get little in return. Maybe I’m generalizing but this is my experience so far. Only now do we hear the terms shifting, graveyard, mid-shift and early shift as the different time zones were supposed to work with. The idea of working from 8am-5pm or 9am-6pm as the fixed schedule of everybody is an ancient idea.

With the rise of globalization and fast changing environment, millennials have to keep up. When you keep up with varying schedules and the never ending workload you eventually burn out. Inflation only makes things worse. It’s no wonder that some millennials hold off on getting married. Whenever I see some of my peers get married, it’s only normal to feel a little envy that they have their life settled. But we don’t see the whole picture. We only see what they want you to see. Also, is married life even applicable to everybody?

Marriage takes a lot of time, effort, commitment and resources. If you don’t have those things settled then maybe marriage isn’t the right time for you. Each individual has their own timeline. If one rushes into things just because of pressure, would you be really happy with your life or just conforming to what society dictates?

For me, it’s not easy that adults and other peers throw at you what life should be like without understanding your situation and the world we live in. They may think in the old ways but the future is now. It’s different. Do what you think is right for you. Set your own timelines since it is your life. If you think you can have a family now then do it. If you want to get married in your 40’s or 50’s then go ahead if you think your more financially stable at that age.

No one has the right to dictate their own timeline onto you. Live your life the way you should. Your own happiness should be your priority. Forget everyone else. Be happy in your own way. Live life in your own time. At the end of the day, only your happiness matters. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
