Life Isn’t Going To Turn Out The Way You Wanted It To And Here’s Why That’s Perfectly Alright

Here’s a dirty little secret: Your experience in the real world will not even come close to what you’ve seen in movies or heard about in your favorite songs.

“Get through it when it’s hard, celebrate it when it’s wonderful, and LIVE,” reads a post-it which I’ve had on my desktop’s screen for a while now. I don’t really remember where I found the quote, but one thing I know for sure is that it got me through a bunch of anxiety-filled moments.

Remember when you were in high-school and you couldn’t wait to get out of your small quiet town and experience the real world full-on? Well, here’s a dirty little secret: Your experience in the real world will not even come close to what you’ve seen in movies or heard about in your favorite songs.

I’m here to tell you that you will get the job you’ve always dreamed of having and you will live in the city of your dreams. However, I hate to break it to you, kid, but these milestones in your life will not bring you endless happiness. Sure, you will rejoice when they happen, but then you will look for something else to fill that void. It’s natural and it happens to all of us.

There were moments when I wanted to let go of everything because I couldn’t see the light at the end of tunnel anymore. But remembering that I have no other choice except actually getting through the tough times and mentally and emotionally accepting that the choice was already made for me was all that mattered at the time.

What you have to remember in those moments is that it’s not your fault for not being happy anymore, and you’re not the one to blame for always wanting something else. What you really need to do is take advantage as much as possible of those tiny fleeting moments when you’re bursting with happiness.

When you do feel like nothing will ever be enough and that you might just be a fraud, just know that you’re mistaken. Looking at the world around you and observing how everybody is living their lives should not make you question yours. Everybody’s got their own pace and everybody’s destiny has been written in a different way. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
