You’re Not Asking For Too Much

Don't let anyone convince you your standards are too high when all you're really asking for is a strong, stable relationship.

Expecting them to send a text back within a reasonable time frame is not asking for too much. Your person should consider you one of their top priorities, even from afar. They shouldn’t forget you exist when you are no longer in the room with them. They shouldn’t ghost you for days and expect you to still hop up and down when they see you again. They should put effort into your relationship even on the days you aren’t able to see each other in person. They should permanently be a good partner, not temporarily, based on whether or not they’re in the mood that day.

Expecting them to have deep, emotional conversations with you is not asking for too much. Your conversations shouldn’t always be about fun, flirty, superficial things. There are going to be times when you need to communicate about bigger things, messier things, more complicated things. You can’t be in a committed relationship without having some uncomfortable talks. It’s part of being a couple. You should feel like you can come to them about anything and they will be there to listen.

Expecting them to follow through on the promises they make you is not asking for too much. Your person should be consistent, reliable, trustworthy. If they make a habit out of disappointing you, then how are you going to take anything they say as the truth? Making empty promises that you’ll be a good partner tomorrow is one thing. Actually following through on your promise is a completely different thing. Remember, actions speak louder than words.

Expecting them to stay loyal to you in a committed relationship is not asking for too much. It shouldn’t be that hard for them to stop flirting with other people, to stop staring at other people, to stop pursuing other people. They should want you and only you. If they can’t stay faithful, then they shouldn’t be in a relationship. They shouldn’t get to have you if they’re going to be fooling around behind your back.

Expecting them to express their love to you is not asking for too much. They should be saying those three little words. They should be reminding you how much they care. They should make it their mission to make you feel loved. If you’re constantly wondering whether they even care, then they’re not the right one for you, because you should never be left with questions.

Expecting them to be there for you whenever you need them is not asking for too much. They are supposed to be your teammate. They are supposed to have your back. They aren’t supposed to run away when things get hard. They aren’t supposed to abandon you to deal with your issues alone. They are supposed to be there for you, no matter what.

Don’t let anyone convince you your standards are too high when all you’re really asking for is a strong, stable relationship. You deserve more than the basics. You deserve a committed, loving relationship. You deserve everything you’ve been hoping to have. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
