I Want To Be Your First Priority, Not Your Second Choice

I want to be the person you care deeply about, not the person you could easily live without. I want to be your only one, not just another one. I want to be your first priority, not your second choice.

I want to be the one person you are willing to put in effort for, not another person you neglect, not another person you treat as a second choice or a backup plan, not another person you string along for as long as possible.

I want to be the person who you rearrange your schedule for because you cannot stand the thought of waiting another day to see me, not the person you keep telling you are too busy to hang out with.

I want to be the person you introduce as your girlfriend, not the person who you claim is only a friend because you don’t want to be tied down with a label yet.

I want to be the person you text back quickly, not the person you leave waiting for hours — maybe even days — because answering me back honestly slips your mind.

I want to be the person you bring home to your parents for the holidays, not the person you keep at a distance because you’re worried about growing too close, because you’re worried about things getting too serious.

I want to be the person you run to whenever you have good news or bad news, not the person you lie to without flinching, the person you make excuses to, the person you close yourself off from.

I want to be the first person you text in the morning, not the person you resort to texting after midnight when you are wasted and lonely and can’t think of anyone else to text that will respond right away.

I want to be the person who you count down the seconds until you see, the person who never leaves your mind once, not the person who you are comfortable canceling plans with at the last second because you found something better to do.

I want to be the person who you plan out dates with weeks in advance, not the person who you text at the last second and ask to grab a drink or sit in your bedroom to watch Netflix.

I want to be the person you talk to about the future, not the person who you avoid having conversations with about next week or next month because you can’t imagine keeping me around for that long.

I want to be the person you kiss on the forehead, not the person you only kiss on the neck, the person you avoid looking in the eyes because it’s too intimate.

I want to be the person who you change your relationship status for. The person you delete your dating apps for. The person who makes you think about marriage and moving in together. The person you can imagine staying with for a long time — maybe even a lifetime.

I want to be the person you care deeply about, not the person you could easily live without.

I want to be your only one, not just another one.
