At 49, Ryan Reynolds Crashed Marvel’s Comic-Con Panel in a Full Deadpool Suit, and It All Felt a Bit Too Cringe for Most People, Right Down to the Dropped Mic on His Way Out
Comic-Con is Marvel’s biggest stage of the year, and this weekend it delivered the first on-screen collision of the X-Men and the Avengers.

Ryan Reynolds walked onstage at Comic-Con in full Deadpool gear to needle Robert Downey Jr. about the budget, then dropped the mic and left. Plenty of fans online thought the whole bit was trying way too hard.

Reynolds crashed Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday presentation in San Diego on Saturday, joining Downey Jr. and Paul Rudd onstage for the panel that folded X-Men characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time.

Still in the Deadpool suit, he opened with a jab: “This seems like an awfully expensive way to announce a film. When do you start filming?” Downey, now playing Doctor Doom, shot back, “It’s in the can, bro. Look around you. Did you bump your head?” Reynolds kept going about “additional photography” and “hot costs” before signing off with “No further questions. Happy Hogan, fetch the Audi. We’re leaving,” dropping the microphone as he walked out of Hall H.

The reaction on Reddit was less charmed. One user wrote, “Ryan ‘I need all the attention’ Reynolds.” Another said, “Maybe I’m in the unpopular group but I find him annoying as hell.”
The appearance stands as the strongest hint yet that he’ll turn up in Avengers: Doomsday, with speculation about a Deadpool role still building. It also comes weeks after he and wife Blake Lively were left off the guest list for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding, the fallout from Lively’s legal battle with Justin Baldoni.
