Producer’s note: Someone on Quora asked: What is the single most underrated trait a person can have? Here are some of the best answers that’s been pulled from the thread.

1. Steven Holmes

Commitment is pretty useful, especially when it’s real and not a management training cliché People who keep their word and stay until the end, people who find solutions and keep going, people who ignore disappointments and even unpopularity… invariably these are the type who pioneer real innovation or pull off real solutions in everyday life. If you are dying of cancer you learn commitment to surviving very fast, or you die. People who do not realise that life is a matter of life and death do not know anything at all. They remain babies, chasing treats like puppy dogs, never being adult enough to take on the burdens of commitment They are pitiful.

If I make an arrangement with someone and they break it, that’s the last they’ll ever hear from me… Real people know that they are already committed, they have already given their word, they have already voted. Those who cannot decide are not people I’d want to be involved with. I wouldn’t want a parent who may not stick around, yet millions of children have to endure that. They were produced by parents who aren’t even properly committed to the consequence of having created new life…

Yes, commitment is definitely the one trait that makes a person worth knowing.
