On Monday evening, two more Republican senators announced that they would not support the American Health Care Act or Trumpcare. With their defection, Trumpcare is dead for the moment as Republicans do not have enough votes to pass it in the Senate.

Republicans don’t have enough votes to pass their long-awaited alternative to Obamacare in the Senate in which they hold the majority.

On Twitter last night and this morning, President Trump vacillated wildly between his suggestion of “let Obamacare fail” to pushing for different Senate rules.

Trump said “we” (the White house? America? who is we?) were let down by “all of the Democrats and a few Republicans”. He even used the word “loyal” which has landed him in hot water before.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell issued a statement saying the Senate would vote on a bill to repeal Obamacare at a delay of two years.

As Republicans hold the presidency and the majority in the House and Senate, the defeat of their long-promised replacement to Obamacare is a stunning defeat.  Thought Catalog Logo Mark
