20 Of The Spookiest First-Person Accounts Of Seeing An Actual Spirit In The Real World That You’ll Ever Read
Above the hay was a misty form which had the very clear shape of a woman “floating” above the hay stack. She had on a milk-maid type dress and her head was cocked to the side and her eyes were wide open. My first thought I remember very distinctly and it was “I am seeing…

1. Grim Reaper From The 70s
Intensive care nurse here: I have many stories ranging from sheets being ripped apart, to old women in rocking chairs, but the one which ‘haunts’ me is the time I think I actual saw the grim reaper. It was 1999 late in the day, it was summer and turning dark in a busy 12 bedded ITU, in London. I was in charge and at the nurses station, there were a few people milling around, but less than during the day. I looked up to see this man opening and coming through the double doors into the unit. What was so striking about him were his clothes. He looked like he had been picked straight out of 1974 and dropped in 1999. He was wearing brown cord flares, the platform shoes men wore then an orange, yellow and brown check shirt with a cream and brown patterned tank top, over the shirt. He was white with shortish brown hair (not quite 1970’s) and about 30 years old. He walked calmly (like he did this all the time) towards a bay of patients. Not recognizing him and knowing he wasn’t a relative of other health care person, I said ‘Hello, can I help?’ He looked at me directly, nodded as if to say ‘Hello’ and carried on walking. I watched him and he stopped at the end of a patients bed and turned to look at them. He never touched the person or do anything other than look at them. This unwell, but stable patient suddenly and unexpectedly deteriorated. As the staff went to assist they all acted like they didn’t see him. He turned round and as calmly as he came in he left. I never saw what direction he went as I left the nurses station to go and help with the patient, who ultimately despite our best efforts died. I spoke to the some of the staff later on about our 1970’s visitor and no-one else saw him. 17 years later it is vivid in my mind.
2. The Penthouse Owner
My family bought a penthouse apt back when I was in HS. We got it for like 50k under what it was worth. Turned out the previous owner was a music producer who had disappeared. The guys body finally wound up being found months later, the way I remember it he had been tortured then shot multiple times. Real sad stuff, we bought the apt from his mom who just wanted to be done with the whole thing. Anyway, my step dad and I started going daily to fix it up but I always felt uneasy about being there as if someone was watching me. One day my step dad went down to the car to get some tools and left me alone. As i was there by myself I looked down the hallway that led down to the master bed room and I kid you not I saw a bright white silhouette appear from one side of the master bed room walking to the next, it stopped in the middle, turned and looked straight at me. I fucking froze, it wasn’t like an evil kinda thing, he just looked at me for a few secs and then walked to the other side and disappeared. I freaked the fuck out and bolted for the elevator. This shit happened during the middle of the day, it was bright as can be so I knew what the fuck I saw but my step dad wouldn’t believe me and laughed it off.
A couple days later while we were tearing down some built in shelves in one of the bedroom closets we found a notebook belonging to the previous owner and in it were love poems, lyrics and sketches. My mom told my step dad not to throw it away so we could give it to the guy’s mom. My step dad being a piece of shit threw it away. After that creepy shit started happening, lights turned on and off. Windows we had closed the previous day would now be open. These were hurricane force windows by the way, the kind that have latches and keys to them. So it was impossible for the wind to have opened them. My mom and I stopped helping with renovations after that and my step dad hired some guys he knew to come and finish, these guys lived pretty far away so my step dad told them to stay in the apt while the repairs were done. They lasted two days, they called my step dad in a panic in the middle of the night saying they heard shit, saw shadows and that their alarm clock would go off at random times they hadn’t set it too. My mom decided that was it and called in a priest to bless the house, we then burnt sage all through out for a couple of days with the windows open to cleanse and clear the apt. The creepy thugs stopped after that. A few years later I ran into one of the guys and asked him what had happened in the apt that spooked him and he said doors were slamming in the middle of the night and they heard what sounded like things moving out in the laundry area. He said it was the scariest shit he’d ever been apart of and wanted nothing to do with it.
3. A Woman In A Night Gown
I’ve been a person who never was sure what to believe in when it related to ghosts, but my experience has boggled my mind. I was around 12 or so and my cousin, my brother, and I were all hangin out in our family room watching movies. (Crudely drawn layout of house).
It was like midnight and my mom had been in bed for a few hours. I looked up and saw (at least what I thought was) my mom walk past the entryway to the family room, from the living room to the kitchen. My brother even called out “hey mom…” No response, she just walked right past without acknowledging us and into the kitchen, and out of view. She was wearing a long, flowing, white-ish night gown. Keep in mind the entire house is pitch black except for the light of the TV. A couple seconds later, we were wondering what was going on so we got up and glanced in the kitchen. Nothing, just darkness. We started freaking out and all three ran down the hallway, through the living room, and burst into her room. She was lying in bed passed out asleep.
We woke her up and asked if she was just in the kitchen. She leaned up to figure out what was happening and she was wearing blue pajamas-NOT wearing a white nightgown. We freaked out. I didn’t know what to think. There’s a door that connects the kitchen to her room, but that door was always wedged shut and would make a loud creaking/scraping noise once it was shoved open. No one used that door.
We were up and heading towards her room in a matter of seconds. She wouldn’t have had time to walk past, shove open and close that door, and change her clothes. We have no idea who or what we saw walk past that kitchen that night. I would have convinced myself I was seeing things, but my brother CALLED her name– HE saw it too.
I am not making this up.
It’s been over 10 years, I am 24 years old and the thought STILL gives me weird goosebumps and for some reason I start to tear up when I think too much about it. I’m an intellectual and rational person, but if you ask me if I believe in ghosts, I can’t comfortably say “no”.
4. A Pale Horse
In 2009 a friend of mine was coming home from a different city at 11pm with his father and 2-3 kms before entering the city, they suddenly saw a white horse standing in the middle of road. He tried to save the horse and severed the car into the ditch below road. As they got out of car, there was no horse to be seen anywhere. He told me this the next day and we found it creepy.
Fast forward to 2015, some other friends of mine were coming home from a different city at 1:30am and doing 140km/hr. They reach the same place near the city border and suddenly see the same white horse standing in the middle of the road. Driver weighed in his options and decided its just best not try to turn. He hit brakes hard and the car just went straight through the horse, skidding. They came to a stop and realized it was a ghost horse or something and ran home. Told me about this the next day we talked.
Weird thing is, either of these friends never met each other and there is 6 years difference between both occurrences.
5. The Big Man And The Nun
My kid’s catholic school is over 100 years old. there is a basement under the gym that’s used for storage. I was subbing once and during recess one of the kick balls goes down the stairs. A little girl was standing at the top of the stairs yelling “just throw it up to me”. I went over and asked who she was talking to and she replied “that big man down the stairs” I went down and there was nobody down there and it was the only way in.
I asked some of the other kids if they have seen the man before and they said “yes, but sister told us not to talk to him”. I asked them to describe “sister” and they described a nun and there haven’t been nuns at the school in 40 years.
6. The Orphaned House
One of my close friends lived next to a house that was always vacant. It would sell, people would move in, and then one day they’d be gone and the house would be up for sale again. One summer, when the house was listed again and the last family had moved out, we decided to go take a tour and eat some Jack in the Box we had picked up. We weren’t very smart sometimes and thought it would be cool to play chicken with whatever was haunting this house. My friend was really skinny and crawled through the dog door that led straight into the kitchen, then opened the back door for me. We went through all of the rooms and it was pretty nondescript, just a typical 50s style bungalow house with a similar layout to his home, lots of pretty woodwork and built-ins.
After we determined that the house really wasn’t that creepy after all, we sat down in the dining area, on the floor, across from a little horseshoe shaped nook with a kitchen table and built-in bench. It was dusk out but the windows didn’t have curtains and it never got that dark in our city, anyway. At this point, we had been in the house for maybe 25 minutes and after we finished eating we stayed sitting just to hang out and talk since we weren’t spooked out at all.
All of a sudden, mid-sentence, completely out of nowhere, my vision went black and I felt this eery coldness wash all over me (I’m getting chills thinking about it), a feeling so thick I felt like it penetrated my through my body down to my bones. At the very same moment this happened, my friend screamed. I virtually could not see anything and was groping around trying to find something to grab onto and I felt so unsettled and ..cold. There’s really no other word for it. After what felt like hours, I felt my friend’s hands in mine and he pulled me to my feet and drug me through the house to the back door. He kept pulling on my arm and I still couldn’t see anything.
We got outside and slowly ..you know that feeling when you get a whole body shiver and it runs down your spine? As soon as I was outside, that’s what I felt, except this was a whole body shiver that started at the tip of my toes and went all the way up to my scalp, and unexpectedly and suddenly I could see again. My friend was as pale as a sheet and looked absolutely terrified. I felt off and sort of, gross, I guess is the best word, and in shock. I told him that I couldn’t see at all until I was outside, that it felt like I had been enveloped in blackness. He was just staring at me and I finally asked him why he had screamed.
He hugged me and told me that he pulled me out of the house as soon as I started reaching around like I was blind because a little girl who was completely black, and yet see through, crawled out from under the table we were across from and sat on top of me.
7. “Turn It Down”
Was at a friends house when I passed out on the couch. Woke up a bit later and realized it was time for me to go. Got up and noticed my buddies light on in his room but the door was shut. Walked by the door and told him I was leaving because I had to work in the am. He said “YUP, SEE YA!” Went to fridge to grab my drink. Walked back by his room and said “later dude”. He said “YUP”. Something didn’t seem legit, didn’t sound quite like him so I opened the door….. No one there…. No one in the house. Went outside and his truck was gone. I freaked the fuck out. Called his cell an he had left to go to McDonald’s 15 minutes prior. I bolted outside and waited for him to get home. He told me the kid that use to live there years ago hung himself In the attic an ever since he lived there he has notice strange things and voices. This was confirmed by the neighbor… The kids older brother! After that just about anyone who goes over there has a weird experience. My buddy has dealt with it for years. When it gets weird. He yells out loud “LEAVE ME ALONE” and he says the weird vibes stop for a bit. But they always come back.
One of my friends ex girlfriend swears that one night she was taking a bath in the house and she had the radio on. She closed her eyes and all of a sudden she said the radio slowly turned down. She didn’t think much of it (old radio) and turned it back up. It went down again. She turned it back up louder. Closed her eyes once more and she said someone whispered in her eye “turn it down”. She opened her eyes and saw a man standing there with black messy hair and glasses. My friend asked his neighbor (the suicidal kids brother) if that description was anyone he knew….. He went into his living room and brought back a picture of his brother. I’m told by the ex girlfriend that it was the same person no doubt.
9. A Family Of Seers
The children in my family have a thing with seeing ghosts. We have had 3 major incidents that have freaked out my family from all different generations and different “ghosts.”
The first incident was when my sister was just able to talk. My mom was driving past Peterson Tractor where my grandpa used to work and my sister pointed to the business and said “grandpa plays with tractors” well the strange thing was that my grandpa died when my mom was 15 and my mom had never mentioned him.
The next story happened almost every night when I was little. My mom would put me down for bed and I would immediately jump out of bed and go over to my grandmas vanity set she gave me before she died. I would say good night to whatever was over there and give it a hug. I would blow a kiss and say “good night grandma.” My poor mom has now had both of her children see ghosts.
The third story is the strangest. My aunt died of leukemia when she was 13, and then my cousin got diagnosed when she was 10. My cousin was laying in her hospital bed when she turned to my grandma and asked “who is that little girl in the white wicker chair?” My grandma had her describe the little girl and my grandma showed her a picture of Cheryl (my aunt who had passed) and she confirmed it was her.
10. I Still Wonder What Happened In That Room
My family and I were traveling from western Kentucky to Florida for vacation. After a long day of driving, we ate waffles and other breakfast miscellany at one of those all-night-breakfast places and were looking for somewhere to sleep for the night, but everywhere was full.
When we finally saw a hotel lacking a lit-up “No Vacancy” sign, it was a Days Inn in Dothan, Alabama. I needed to stretch my legs, and my Game Gear had died, so I went into the front office with my dad to get the room.
The woman, tired and barely contained by her hotel employee’s uniform, told us “We’re all booked up.” But her coworker said something like, “What about 229?” and she paused for a second, looked at me, and then at my dad and said, “Well yeah, I guess you could take 229. Would you like 229?”.
“Well yeah..why not? Sure”. And so began the strangest night I’ve ever experienced.
We settled in for bed almost instantly. My brother and I in one, my parents in the other. Something seemed off about the room, but we were too tired to care.
At around 2:30 in the morning I woke up to my mom screaming, and my dad sitting straight up in bed.
“There’s a man in the room! HEY, HEY. Who are you? What are you doing in here?”
We all woke up, and there was this dark figure of a large man in the room, standing over my parents bed. My brother dove for the lightswitch and the room came into this sudden, quiet focus.
I remember thinking later about what might be a more appropriate or effective thing to say when you’re encountered by a large dark figure standing at the foot of your bed. But in the moment, nothing was there. Just a shitty TV, a mini fridge, and a mirror.
We all sat there for a moment trying to figure out what just happened. My dad said, “We’re leaving.” And we were back on the road as fast as we fell asleep.
Later on, my parents discussed it. My mother apparently only saw a man. My father also saw a man and a dog. I just remember seeing shapes. We scoured the internet to see if anything weird had happened in the hotel that year. I even tried calling the hotel years later, but it had since gone under new management. From time to time we always wonder what happened in that room.
11. Graveyard Shit At The Jail
I’m a detentions deputy that works alone in a 60 bed jail on graveyard shift. Several times I’ve seen inmates out of their cells in the middle of the night, went to investigate, and found everyone accounted for and asleep. We’ve had two suicides and one homicide since I’ve worked there and it would always happen within the month of the incident.
They’re usually out of the corner of my eye or when I walk by a door and I’ve never gotten a good look at them, other than noticing the flash of an orange jumpsuit(our seg inmates and the two suicides wore orange jumpsuits.) and then they are gone. I’ve seen an inmate up against the glass in the gym, then walk away from it and when I get there he’s gone, I’ve seen one several times standing in an empty seg cell as I walk by, and I saw one in our kitchen standing at the sink in the dark as I walked by the door.
I’ve also found lights on in the middle of the night in rooms that I don’t have access to and property bins pulled off their shelves when nobody was there.
12. “Don’t say anything. Don’t look at them. You need to be asleep.”
I’m one of those people that only rarely remembers their dreams. But when I do, they tend to be quite vivid.
When I was about 15, I went on a mission trip to Appalachia with my church youth group. We were all piled into a school bus, and the drive lasted at least a day and a half, so we had to stop and sleep overnight at other churches.
On the trip there, we got lost on the back roads of Ohio trying to find the place we were supposed to sleep that night.
It was about 1 or two in the morning (yeah, we were REALLY lost) and looking out the window, I must have drifted off – except the transition was so seamless I don’t remember actually falling asleep. Because one moment I was just looking out the window at the dark countryside, and the next there were all these pale, flickering people walking through the trees on either side of the road, just watching us. They were all white, and seemed almost luminous as they came closer to the road.
I looked around, and everybody else on the bus was asleep, except the driver.
The driver was this kinda stoic, old-school renfest goth guy named Christopher (NOT Chris), and he and I got each other pretty well, so I’d been sitting up front to shoot the shit with him. I remember turning around to ask him what was up with the people on the side of the road, but he was just staring straight ahead. He didn’t seem freaked out or anything, but before I could actually say anything, he said, in this really calm voice:
“Don’t say anything. Don’t look at them. You need to be asleep.”
I didn’t think the people from the road wanted to hurt me – if anything, I just felt sad for them. They all looked so lost, and their clothes were all in tatters. Some of them looked like they’d been burned. Some of them were kids.
But I believed Christopher when he told me it was better not to look at them.
I don’t remember going to sleep, but I did close my eyes, and when I opened them again we were in a small town, and the road-people were gone.
13. Have No Sympathy For The Dead, They Are Free
Back when I was 17, I had just got my license and went driving around with some friends, as you do. Loud music, good times, random pitstops for no reason. The usual.
We decided that a drive through the back bush area in to rural area of Australia was a good idea at 10pm. Off we drove down the one road that would lead us out through the bush in to the darkness.
There were no lights along this road, only my high beams lit the way. As we were driving, we came across this elderly man in a cream suit with a bunch of slightly wilted flowers with his thumb out. He seemed harmless by all means, and we decided we would pick him up. It was no place for anyone to walk.
He was a really nice guy, well kept and trimmed beard. His eyes were incredibly bright aswell, a piercing blue colour. He said he was out this way because he was visiting the site of where his loved ones died. Apparently he didn’t drive any more, after the accident that had killed them. We were a little unsettled, but in the end we thought nothing of it, he was good natured and polite to boot.
We came up around a corner and he asked if he could please be dropped off there. We did so, assuming that the site was nearby. He got out of the car, we shook hands with him, wished him well and sent our sympathy to his loved ones.
He replied with “Have no sympathy for the dead, they are free. May God bless you all, children.” He turned and walked straight in to the dense bush and (I shit you not) disappeared within six steps. Like the darkness just swallowed vision of him.
It’s been a few years now, and there has been no news of any missing people in that area. My friends and I don’t know whether it was a dream, hallucination or what. We’ve gone past that same area a few times now, once walking out in to the area he went. Found nothing, though.
I won’t blame anyone for not believing this is real, because sometimes I think the same thing. But it’s a memory in my brain I can’t get rid of, so I guess it must have been true.
14. Sam Through The Window
I was working the 11-7 shift as a charge nurse in a nursing home. There was a patient named “Sam“. Sam had come to the home after a mugger had attacked him with a tire iron. The doctors had saved his life by removing the left side of his skull and part of his brain. Sam’s head looked like a basketball that was deflated on one side. Despite not really being able to take care of himself, he could read, watch TV, and engage in his favorite pastime, watching the young female nurses and aides. He wouldn’t do anything but put his arm around a girl’s shoulder to say ‘Thank You‘ when she picked up his dinner tray. That was it. So Sam became something of the nursing home mascot. But as it happens in this business, Sam died of a blood infection six months after I started there.
The night of his death, we were gathered around the desk for the report from Sandy, the 3-11 nurse, as she gave her report to me and three nurse’s aides. When Sandy came to Sam’s name, she said “Sam died at about 3:30 this after…”. Suddenly a call light came on. Everyone stared at the light board. The call was coming from Room 30. That room had been locked ever since the relatives had taken his belongings away. The call was coming from Sam’s empty, locked room.
We all went down the hall to see what this was about. We thought that another patient had probably gotten into the room and put on the call bell. Sam’s room was open, lights were on, call bell was pushed in ( old fashioned call light. Shape like a bell, you had to push the button in the center to call and turn it off by twisting the edge of the bell). Only one problem, no patient was up, the door was not forced, it was unlocked, all the staff were at the desk, the only one that had the key was the charge nurse and the door was locked when I made rounds not more then ten minutes before.
I mumbled something about loose wire. I twisted the call bell off, turned the room lights off, locked the door and went with the rest of the staff back to the Nurse’s Station. Sandy started the report again. She didn’t get more than 3 minutes into the report, when Sam’s call light came on again. We went down to find the room opened, lights on and call bell on, all patients in bed. I turned the call bell off, the lights off, and locked the room up again. Back to the desk. Report started again. The light came on again. By this time it was more nuisance than scary. So we decided to leave it on, continue report so that the other shift could leave.
After report, I went down to the room, turned off the call bell, replaced the old cord with a new call bell cord, turned off the room lights, and locked the door again. The bell stayed off but the signal on the board stayed on. We went down the longest hall- Sam’s hall- to start our work. As we passed Sam’s room the door was open but the lights were off. The Nurses aides felt a cold breeze up their skirts( remember Sam liked the ladies.) At that I went into the room to check if someone had opened a window. No window was open and no air conditioner was on in the room. I closed the door and locked the door again. And we continued. After we finished down that hall, we went past Sam’s room again. The door was still closed and locked. By the time we finished the 1st round it was 2 AM. Back at the desk, the call light in Sam’s room was off. We forgot about Sam.
We drank our, by now, cold coffee. I did my paper work and the aides exchanged small talk. At 3 AM, we started the second round down the long hall again. This time Sam’s door was open and the females felt an even colder breeze. I went into the room. It was like a vacuum as if the air had been sucked out. I opened the windows but no air could dispel the vacuum. I had had enough. I yelled, “Sam you’re dead! You spent enough time in this place. Get out of here!” I closed the windows, locked the door again, and joined the aides for rounds. I didn’t go in that room until around 6:00 AM. All four of us went for one last look. No vacuum, no breeze, sun shining through the window. Nothing to prove anything happened that morning. We didn’t want to tell the 7-3 shift and risk the whole day looking at ink blots, so we kept the occurrences to ourselves but this was only the beginning. We were not prepared for what was going to happen next.
The following night, I get a call at home from Sandy. She asked me if anything happened on 11-7 shift. I said “why?” Sandy stated this tale.
“Well when we were picking up the dinner trays we were one tray over. We passed out 26 trays and we picked up 27 trays.”
“Somebody miscounted.” I said.“That may have happened. Only the 27th tray was outside Sam’s Room just as he had left it when he was alive…exactly as he left it.”
“Somebody is pulling a prank on you, Sandy”, I said.
“I don’t think so because when I stood up from taking the tray, I felt an arm around my shoulder just like Sam had put it. I was the only one down that hall.”
I then told her what had happened the previous morning. She said, “Well, it looks like we have ghost to add to the census.”
That wasn’t the end of the story. A week later another patient was admitted to Room 30. A retired university professor. One night her light came on. She had seen a man staring at her from outside her window. When I asked her what the man looked like, she said that he was not normal looking. The left side of his head was deflated like an old volleyball (she used to play volleyball a lot in her younger days). I told her that I would go around the building and see if I could see him. The police were called to look for a potential prowler. They found no one and no footprints outside the window; no grass disturbed. But I knew who it was. When I told the Nurse’s Aides, they knew who it was. Sam was back! Over the years every female patient that was in that room saw Sam staring at them through the window. No male patient would ever see him. For you see, Sam liked the girls.
I left the nursing home some years later so don’t know how long Sam stuck around. But these events were experienced and/or confirmed by various employees and patients. In my career working in nursing homes, reports like this are relatively common. I don’t know what to make of this, except that we just don’t know what happens after death and maybe some people just want to linger where they felt most comfortable. Sam did.
15. The Man In The Projection Booth
I used to work at a movie theater. It was a crappy cheap movie theater that got all the movies after they were done at the bigger nicer theaters… We always joked about a ghost that haunted the place. We would always hear whistling. You could whistle part of a song and you would hear someone whistle the rest. I shit you not. This happened. We kind of joked about it and went on with our lives. Well one day I was up in the projection area and I heard someone say my name. I yelled back “WHAT??” no answer. I walked down stairs and asked my coworkers what they wanted. They were slammed busy at the front desk / lobby…. no one had come upstairs…. fine … could be explained right? Im hearing things right?
Well here is the freakiest part. My family doesn’t celebrate Christmas like most families so I would always volunteer to work Xmas eve and Xmas day. I was working the night shift on Xmas eve alone. I was waiting for 2 or 3 people to get done watching Lord of the Rings or something so I could go home. After the movie was out I ran upstairs, stopped the projector and ran back downstairs to clean the theater. No one else was in the building at this point. Halfway through cleaning the theater I get this feeling like “Wow… I shouldn’t be here right now”. I look up and see a man shaped shadow in the projection booth. I ran out of the theater, turned off all the lights and ran out the door. I turn around and see that there’s a neon sign for COFFEE behind the snack bar that’s still on… I work up some courage and run back inside to turn it off. I literally jump over the counter, turn the light off and jump back to the door. By the time I’m out the door I turn back around to see the light flickering back on. WTF!! I ran back in turned it off again. I turn to my right and see a flash of light come from the middle of the dark lobby. I turned, ran and never looked back.
16. The Mall Suicide Ghost
The mall I work at was built in the 60’s and I have been working there since 2004. I had always joked with my co-workers about our store being haunted and never really took any strange happenings seriously. In 2007, I was offered a job doing security for the mall and took it because it payed as much starting as I made as a manager at the store I worked at. The only drawback? It was graveyard.
During this time the mall was adding skylights, tearing down a Mervins and building a Nordstrom. My first incident was the early morning of “black Friday” a little after 3am. I was driving around the parking lot and happened to see a large man in a security uniform in our office. We have an outside office with a glass door and a code lock. Normally this would not be out of the ordinary as we has several very cliche security guards. The problem was that the only other person working was a small cambodian man. I called my other officer over to report what I had seen and he informed me that in 2005 a guard had died of a heart attack at the mall. He showed me a picture that was posted in the lunchroom and I was shocked to see the resemblence between him and who I had seen in the office minutes before. My coworker and I laughed about how we had an extra officer for back up and continued our shifts.
A few months later, I was delivering something to the mall office when I heard an old man say behind me”excuse me, miss?” I turned around and said “yeah, what’s up?” to find no one there. Now mind you I was in a locked back hallway and I ran up and down that hallway searching for the source of this voice and found nothing to explain it.
Now most people dont realize how many suicides actually happen at malls but I know of 3 at my mall (one I found). There used to be a police substation on one of the porches. One day for what ever reason some african american dude shot himself in the head right next to the substation. While they were tearing down this substaition and building new stores, a lot of strange things happened in that area. I saw a black man frantically trying to get housekeepings attention to no avail. (The housekeeper had no idea what I was talking about) A tenant looked in a store window and saw a black mans reflection waving his arms next to her as we were walking. It always happens in the same area of the mall as the suicide. One night, I went to unlock a service door on that very porch. As I approached I started to smell a mixture of honey bucket and dead animal. When I opened the door, I found that the light had gone out in the hallway and it was pitchblack. Or so I thought. A figure started to come towards me that was even blacker than the hallway and the smell intensified. I actually ran back to the car waving my hands in the air and screaming.
This one I think was the worst. You know how when you are in a well lit room and you look in a window at night? All you can see is your reflection right? Well we were having a blizzard and I was working by myself. I decided to go out for smoke. As I was walking out, I happened to glance at my reflection. There was some sort of animal behind me. A big one that I had never seen before. I looked down and ran my ass outside. Once I gathered myself I started to think about what I was going to do because there was no way in hell I was going back in that office. I thought ‘hey I’ll just drive around’ Nope the car keys are on the office desk. ‘Ok I’ll just walk around the mall for a while and hang out with housekeeping’ Nope the mall keys are on the desk. ‘ok fuck this place. I quit!’ ha! nope keys are on the desk. I waited in the snow during a blizzard for 3 hours until the next guard came on duty.
Most recent. I saw someone sitting in a massage chair after hours in the suicide area. Then I saw a kiosk chair move without making a sound. This is damn near impossible unless it is lifted off the ground.
17. The Man In The Hallway
In my childhood home there was a bathroom in the hallway. If you looked in the mirror while washing your hands, you could see down the hallway, toward the front door. At night, I would often see a tall bald man in a grey suit standing there out of the corner of my eye, but he would disappear if I looked directly at him, or turned around.
We moved out of the house, but years later I told my mom about it. Surprised and a little scared, she said she saw the same thing for years. It was a little creepy, but I thought since we both saw the same thing out the mirror in the same spot, it was probably a trick of the light.
Oddly enough, in a separate conversation with my little brother, he mentioned seeing a man in that hallway all the time. I chuckled and said, “Out of the corner of your eye in the downstairs bathroom mirror?” He said, “No, I would see him at the opposite end of the same hallway, but when looking down from upstairs.”
“What did he look like?”
“He was tall and always wore a grey suit.”
What’s weird is that, for years, we were all seeing the same man in the same hallway, but just kept our fear to ourselves. Not until half a decade later after we had moved out of the house did we realize we had all been experiencing the same thing.
18. It Started With The Noises
I know people don’t believe in spirits. I myself never did until I lived in this one house.. It was a newer home too so it was odd to me. Perhaps it was just energy left over from a time long ago I don’t know. But my entire family saw stuff. It first started out with noises. The first summer there my sister and I were left alone all day while my parents worked. we were 15 and 10 at the time and one day I heard coughing in my parents room. My sister and I thought it was our father. We thought maybe he was home sick. So all day we kept hearing coughing and finally after about 5 hours I decide to peek in and ask dad if he needed medicine. There was no one in the room. We went in to check the master bathroom and nothing no one was there.
Then a few days later we heard the back shower open.. it was one of those rolling kind that made quite a bit of noise. We heard it open and close and we sat there waiting for my mom or dad to come out of the room. Again nothing they were not home. That summer my cousins visited and they too heard the coughing and shower.
We lived there for 5 years and things got worse and worse over time. Tapping on the walls, My sister and her best friend were having a sleep over and her friend saw someone walk out of my room. She said “hi” to me but it wasn’t me. My cousin saw someone walk out of the bathroom into my sisters room, she thought it was me but I was out front at the time.
My aunt stayed over on a new years eve once. She bitched me and my sister out for walking all over her air bed and waking her up. We did not do that..
My mother was walking down the hall way in the early morning she thought my dad was behind her and asked if he wanted a full or half pot of coffee… when she got out of the hall way she turned to see a man in a plaid shirt that then ran past her.
My sisters friend stopped coming over because she was in my sisters room and a Susan B. Anthony coin my grandpa had given her flew off the shelf and hit the wall leaving a dent in the wall. My sister was walking out the door at the time and thought her friend who threw it. She had been on the top bunk sitting down. Her friend got up and called her mom to leave right away and never came back over.
My best friend stayed over once for a week and she stayed in my room with her evil cat that hated me. I slept on the bottom bunk of my sisters bed. My friend asked why I kept coming in the room to bug the cat. Why I kept knocking on the walls, and why I would lay on the bed only to get up and leave. I did none of this. that cat hated me and would attack me. She said the cat would flip out and hiss and meow like I was in the room.
Then one time I got up to go pee in the middle of the night in our bathroom the way the mirror was.. if you looked over your right shoulder while on the toilet you could see in to the kitchen. I always did this when I left the door open. It was like 3 am so the door was left open and I looked in the mirror. I saw a man standing in the kitchen by the fridge at first I thought it was my dad. Then he turned around like he knew I was looking, and there were no eyes just dark patches and he opened his mouth perhaps to say something I don’t know.. I stopped mid pee and ran back into my room. all the while keeping an eye on the “guy” I never went pee at night again.
I was so happy when we moved. I have no clue what all that was but so many people witnessed and saw things that it wasn’t just my imagination.
19. The Silver Man
When I was 11 years old, I woke up one night and saw a man standing in my room, opening and closing my dresser drawers. He was tall, pale, and shiny, but he looked corporeal–not translucent or ghostly or anything. I couldn’t move at all, but I pissed myself instantly. I shut my eyes as tight as I could, but when I opened them, he was still there, opening and closing drawers. I kept my eyes closed for a long time, and finally, after what seemed like hours, he was gone. The next morning, a lot of my shirts and pants were tied in knots. I came to the conclusion that I had a very vivid dream, and perhaps my sister played a joke on me by tying my clothes in knots.
Flash forward 15 years. We had long since moved out of the house, and no one had lived there since. I stopped by one day with my mom and two aunts, who had lived in the same house when they were kids. When we walked into my bedroom, my mom and my older aunt start teasing my younger aunt about the “silver man” she saw one time. My jaw hit the fucking floor.
20. Something Horrible
My parents were renting an old farm house behind which was an old barn. It had the big double doors which led into the main barn area but it also had doors on the exterior of the barn which lead into small rooms- most of which stored old lumber, hay, etc. On this particular day it was very sunny outside so a lot of light was coming through the one window next to the door through which I entered into the room. There was a pile of hay in the “far” corner (the room couldn’t have been more than 12’x12′). Above the hay was a misty form which had the very clear shape of a woman “floating” above the hay stack. She had on a milk-maid type dress and her head was cocked to the side and her eyes were wide open. My first thought I remember very distinctly and it was “I am seeing something horrible that I shouldn’t be seeing.” I don’t remember seeing a rope but in retrospect I know that she was hanged (either a suicide or murder). My mother remembers me running into the house telling her that I saw a ghost. The funny thing is that I didn’t think it was a ghost until about halfway to the house. I have thought about going back to that house many times throughout the years but my mother can’t remember the name of the road we lived on. I remember my grandmother telling my mother that the house had a terrible fire some years after we moved.
