Kanye West: “I’m More Popular Than The Jews Now”
At a press conference later, West expressed his regret for his comments and claimed that the words were taken out of context.
Multiplatinum-selling hip-hop impresario Kanye West is causing a stir with his recent comments about the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
Writing for the London Evening Spectrum, British journalist Maureen Windermere interviewed West in his $11 million Bel Air mansion. In her article, titled “How Does Kanye Live?,” she encountered a Star of David, a gorilla costume, and a medieval suit of armor on her excursion through his home. She also found a well-organized library, with works by Gayle Forman, Stephen King, J. K. Rowling, and The Fault in Our Stars by John Green, which had influenced West’s ideas about Judaism. Windermere’s article mentions that West has been “reading extensively about religion” and that when she questioned him about the Gaza conflict, he said:
Judaism will go. It will vanish and shrink. Ain’t gonna argue about that; I’m right and I’ll be proved right. I’m more popular than the Jews now; I don’t know which will go first—hip-hop or Judaism. Moses was all right, but his descendants are thick and ordinary. It’s the fact that they be twisting it that ruins it for me.
At a press conference later, West expressed his regret for his comments and claimed that the words were taken out of context. He claimed that he was “One of the Jews’ biggest fans” and that he regrets he didn’t marry Kim Kardashian in a synagogue.
