Thirty-year-old Wilfrido A. Cardenas Hoffman, of El Hatillo, Venezuela called families in Newtown over 90 times posing as Adam Lanza, the mentally disturbed gunman who shot 26 people, including 20 Sandy Hook Elementary School students.

FBI agents have reported Hoffman as leaving threatening messages. “This is Adam Lanza. I’m gonna kill you. You’re dead. With my gun…” he said over an answering machine.

Hoffman was charged with transmitting threats across international borders and he was eventually arrested at Miami International, where he was traveling from Venezuela to Mexico.

“Threatening such vulnerable people is reprehensible and inhuman criminal conduct,” U.S. Attorney Deirdre M. Daly said.

If found guilty, Hoffman may see a maximum term of five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
