You Aren’t Perfect Just Because You’re A Christian—And That’s Okay
Here’s the bad news—we’re all hypocrites. Just because you identify as a Christian doesn’t mean that you’re excused from sin. In fact, we’re more prone to sin because we’re children of God. We’re all struggling or trying to overcome something.
That girl you think is so perfect and Godly in every way could be struggling with an addiction to alcohol.
That couple you admire for having a God-centered relationship could be struggling with sexual immorality.
That boy you just sat beside in church could be struggling with depression and suicide.
Things aren’t always what it seems. Church isn’t a place for the perfect. It isn’t somewhere you go just because you feel like you’re deserving of God’s love, because we’re all deserving of God’s love. We were all born as a slave to sin, and the church isn’t supposed to be just a place we go to. As Christians, we’re supposed to be the church.
We’re supposed to be the symbol of hope and light in a world full of darkness and wickedness.
But here’s the good news: you’re not alone in your struggle. God sees all of us, in all our struggles. God loves us, even in our darkness, especially in our darkness. When we’re struggling with a specific situation that we can’t seem to get out of, God is telling us to hold on tighter to Him, no matter how hopeless the situation seems. During our weakness, it’s oftentimes we experience feelings of shame, anxiety, depression, guilt and indifference because we think in these moments we don’t deserve God. We don’t deserve His love and His grace anymore. But what we fail to realize is that, in these moments, God wants us to run to Him with our sin.
God is saying, “I will never stop loving you, despite what you have done. Run to me with your struggles, and I will help you.”
