As if traffic officers weren’t already considered to be on the lower end of the police food chain, a couple of LA cops have made things worse for everyone. The Los Angeles Department of Transportation is coming under fire for an internet video in which two uniformed officers are shown in public with a female porn star. One officer is shown smacking the unidentified woman’s rear-end, holding her in his arms, and fondling her breasts. The other officer is seen being smacked on on his rear-end, after which he lets lets the porn star in his police cruiser, where she commits sexual acts on herself.
According to KNBC4, the news organization that broke the story, the city’s parking enforcement chief Jimmy Price knew about the porno for as long as two months, but up until very recently no action had been taken. Price was forced to acknowledge the video when a memo from February 21 that implicitly mentions the video was uncovered.
The memo, with the subject line “Standards of Conduct,” reminds officers that “while you are on duty and anytime you are in uniform, you are to conduct yourself in a manner that earns and maintains trust, respect and confidence of those with whom you come in contact.” In other words, don’t smack a naked booty in plain view while you’re supposed to be stopping speeders and handing out tickets.
The memo continues, making a more specific reference: “We have had a recent incident in which a City of Los Angeles Parking Enforcement uniform and vehicle were included in photographs posted on an inappropriate website.”
Although the memo makes no specific mention of the officers’ names, according to the employees who gave the video to KNBC4, Price knew who they were all along. However, when pressed to explain why they weren’t punished after he saw porno, Price stated that at the time, he was “not able to positively identify the individuals as employees.”
As result of the press, the officers have been suspended with pay while an investigation takes place.
