This Is Your Reminder That Your Forever Person Won’t Be Perfect

Unfortunately these expectations are unrealistic to say the least.

Millennials are under the misguided impression that a forever person is someone that meets the expectations of a fictional fairy-tale character. Girls want a guy that has perfect looks; is a perfect gentleman and, well… is overall perfect. Guys want something along the same lines. A girl who looks impeccably beautiful; is smart and funny- is especially loyal.

Unfortunately, these expectations are unrealistic, to say the least. While being caught up in the whirlwind of life- we forget to fall in love with a person rather than fall in love with love.

The undeniable truth at the end of the day is that we are human, we are flawed and we are most certainly not perfect. We seem to think that a forever person is this perfect individual: which could not be farther from the truth!

Something I have learned is that you either like someone for… or you love someone despite… A forever person is most definitely not perfect- if they were; you wouldn’t love them, you’d just like them and by default, they wouldn’t be your forever person.

A forever person is the person who sticks around and loves you despite your flaws and visa versa. It’s a person that you cannot imagine a day without but still manages to annoy the living daylights out of you.

My forever person is no exception: I love him with every inch of my soul and would do anything for him but nevertheless, there are characteristics of his that I know not to be of a “perfect” standard. I see his flaws and love him despite his imperfections.

If I can give you one thing to take away from this: it is that perfection is a warped mentality and image created by society. If you are going to look for a “perfect” person rather than wait for your forever person- you will be waiting your whole life.

Love is imperfect because we are flawed- love is two broken people trying to heal each other.
