Healing Is Hard, But This Is Why We Have To Do It
No one teaches us how to deal with our traumas, how to know and understand ourselves, how to let things go and grow through the pain.
Life is constantly changing. The only thing that is certain is that things are uncertain, and the only thing that is predictable is how unpredictable life is. We go through cycles and phases. We fall, we hurt, we move on. We learn, we grow, we transform. And above all, we heal. And healing can be the most uncomfortable part of it all.
In school, no one teaches us life. No one teaches us how to deal with our traumas, how to know and understand ourselves, how to let things go and grow through the pain. No one teaches us how to deal with everything we’re handled and heal from it. We must do that ourselves and learn as we go. And with all the things we experience in this unfair world, healing can be so difficult. Growing can be so confusing.
We find ourselves in this uncomfortable period where we don’t know if we’re okay or not. Most days we feel good, but some days we question how okay we truly are. We know ourselves, yet we are still learning who we really are. We feel a myriad of emotions. Sometimes we’re angry, sometimes we’re calm. Sometimes we’re happy, sometimes we’re sad. Sometimes we feel nothing at all, and sometimes, everything at once. We know exactly what needs to change, maybe even how to go about it. Or not. But we keep going, even not knowing when or how it’s gonna end.
Suddenly, we realize that we’re going through the painful but necessary process of transformation. It’s hard. It’s lengthy. It’s complicated. It awakens every part of us. We become more in touch with ourselves and our emotions, with others and everything around us. We stop giving the past and the future so much attention and instead focus more on the present moment. We’re not becoming who we are meant to be, we’re becoming aware of who we are. We’re standing on a cliff and we know we must jump, no matter how scary that is. We jump because we know that our possibilities are endless. That everything that will happen is what’s meant to happen. And we will be okay.
And this is why we have to heal. For us, but also for all the hearts we will touch. We have to heal so that peace becomes a constant in our lives. Because one day, it will happen. We will know how to stop, take a deep breath, and take it all in, the good and the not so good. We will realize that those uncomfortable moments were needed. Because when we heal, we free ourselves. We’re not so caught up on the why, it just is. When we heal, we find that our happiness is only up to us, not anyone else. Just like it’s not up to us to make anyone else happy. This is why we have to heal. So that life happens, but it doesn’t break us anymore. So that we remain grounded and find balance. So that when we’re healed, we finally accept things as they are, not as we wish they would be.
So, be patient. Be kind. Keep watering your garden. This is your opportunity to grow, expand your mind, love harder, and let go of what doesn’t serve you. And when the metamorphosis happens, you will wake up a butterfly. Nothing else will control your thoughts and your life but you. And regardless of what happens from that moment forward, you will never be the same as before.
