Bonus! Here’s some mood music to listen to while you read (if you’re brave):

1. A man in the doorway

momsaysimpretty:

True story time. I was about four or five years old and my parents had just separated. My mom was living in a two bedroom apartment, I had my own room but I liked sleeping in her bed whenever I was staying with her. Our two bedrooms were at the end of a hallway, directly across from each other. Our apartment was on the first floor, and I remember that it was in the middle of the summer and my mom had a window open her room, that was directly behind the bed (above the headboard).

Anyways, I woke up in the middle of the night and remember sitting up and seeing that our cat was sitting in the door frame of my mom’s room (her door was open and you could partially see into my bedroom). It was strange because our cat was a huge snuggler and was typically always in bed with us. As I was watching him he walked into my bedroom and meowed. I turned to face my mom and wake her up. In the three-four seconds it took her to wake up and ask me what was wrong we both looked back up in the door frame and their was a man standing by my open door, making his way out of my bedroom. I still don’t know how she managed to do it so quickly, but my mother proceeded to pick me up and literally throw me out of the screen window (again, we were on the first floor and it was maybe a three foot drop to the ground). She quickly followed and we were able to start screaming for help and someone called 911.

The police came but didn’t see any signs of forced entry. Only that our front door was unlocked which led them to believe the man must have exited that way. But the strange thing was that my mom swore up and down that she had locked the door that night, with the deadbolt and chain lock. About a week later she was cleaning the kitchen and opened up our water heater closet and found a notebook with names and drawings, as well as a pair of gloves and some gum wrappers. The man had been in our house and hid until we were asleep.

2. Insane lady found their house…

RunUpToHortons:

A terrifying, but true story I experienced when I was 12.

I moved to my dads when I was 10 and didn’t know anyone in the area, except for the family my dad was friends with. Single mom with 3 kids, luckily there was a girl a couple years older than me (12 at the time I met her) and we got to know each other a little over a couple years.

We weren’t close, but ended up having the same friends. One night my friend Rob was hanging out with her and her younger brother. They happened to be in the house alone because my friends mom was at work. Which is where this gets terrifying and sad. Her mother has been helping this one lady (through her work) and got to know her fairly well. She found out her sister was in a mental institution and was let out recently…

The night Rob is hanging out with my friend, they get a knock on the door. My friend thought it was just their mom (she knocks a certain way when coming in) and answered it without thinking. Rob wasn’t supposed to be there and he took off through the window to his house down the road. He never thought twice about it.

Wasn’t her mom. It was the sister of the lady her mom was helping, and she figured out through talking to her sister where her family lived and her moms working schedule. She came in, and this is where is don’t know details and I’m glad I don’t. My friend’s younger brother got away to the neighbours to call the police. The lady brutally murdered my friend a week from Christmas. Decapitated her and left her body, naked in a bathtub. Hid her head. They had to look through the presents and I don’t know where they found it, but they did. I wasn’t allowed to go to her funeral.

3. Grandma’s stalker

skyshadow42:

Happened to my wife’s grandmother about 15 years ago while we were still dating:

Her husband had just passed away about a year previously, but she’d been going down to the library and volunteering — exercise and socialization.

This was in the winter, so her walk back was while it was getting dark. The library closed at 5 and then there was some extra stuff to do before everyone actually left and on this particular night she turned down a ride home from another volunteer because, dammit, she needed to stay in shape.

The house is about a mile away through some lightly wooded area in south Texas, and as she’s about halfway home she notices someone behind her. He’s walking the same direction and gaining on her, which in itself isn’t all that particular (she’s old and thus not particularly fast) but in this case he “seems vaguely sinister”.

They keep walking, pretty soon he’s right behind her. Then he falls into pace, just staying behind her — now she knows that something’s up. But she’s almost home, she can see the top of her driveway coming up, and she leaves her lights on so it’ll look like someone’s home when she’s walking in. She just needs to make it another 150 yards… Then 100… All that time, she said he was so close that she could feel his breath on her neck.
Maybe 50 yards, it happens: Strong had on her shoulder, “Okay bitch, don’t turn around and hand over your purse or I’ll fucking cut ya.”

She stops for a second, then takes one big step forward, turns and shoots the guy in the neck with the .38 she kept in her purse. Hey, it’s Texas.

The guy spent the next five years in a prison hospital before he died of complications. My wife’s grandmother passed last year — up to the end, she lamented that she’d pulled the trigger too soon: “My late husband would have been embarrassed to know I missed.”

4. Dog-loving ghost

ChristopherSquawken:

I was sitting in my room, after getting out of work, on the second floor. Little bro is downstairs watching TV, the dog is in the hallway outside my door sleeping.
All of a sudden dog starts making all kinds of racket, jumping round, barking, clacking nails, howling. I go to get up to see what’s up and I hear “Aw that’s a good girl” in a male voice. It didn’t sound like little bro so I go “Oh you’re home early!” thinking it is my dad’s friend/our roomie as I open the door.

Soon as I’m out there there is no one at all but the dog wagging her tail staring at the empty end of the hallway. Little bro comes upstairs to yell at me for getting his dog riled up, said he heard the same voice thinking it was me or our roommate.

We did a once over of the house with my butterfly knife and his BB gun and there was NOBODY. Still gives me the spooks to this day.

5. Unexpected guest

vebben:

My aunt experienced something similar. She was home alone, when she heard someone open the door snd walking in the hallway. Since her husband (my uncle) was not supposed to get home in a few hours, she went downstairs to see if someone was there.

She did not see anyone, but outside the door she saw footsteps in the snow leading to the door, but not away from it. This got her nervous, and on a second glance she saw a unfamiliar pair of shoes in the hallway. She ran up and called the police, and when they came and searched through the house, the found a homeless man hiding in a storage room, holding my uncles shotgun, but luckily he had not found the ammunition (it was hid another place).

He was arrested, but according to my aunt it is the scariest thing she has ever experienced.

6. Last visit

Trachtas:

our elderly neighbour fell sick and had to go to hospital. Her niece asked us to take care of her dog while she was away. So after schoolwork and dinner and all, me and my brother were sent over to make sure he was doing ok.

So it was late at night, in this weird old lady’s house, my brother was in the shed with the dog and I was in the living room looking at the creepy old photos on the mantelpiece.
What follows is true: I heard the door creak and then a woman’s voice called out the dog’s name.

I freaked out, turned around, obviously there was nobody about. I thought maybe it was the neighbour’s niece, but it had that weird “Did I hear that outside my head or inside it?” echo to it (you know what I mean?) so I also thought I was just letting the creepy house get to me.

But then I went out to my brother and Knocky and he was freaking out too because he thought he’d heard a woman’s voice inside the shed with him saying “Oh there you are”.
We both agreed the voice had that weird in-your-head sound to it and were convinced there were ghosts in the place. Left the dog in the shed, went home, and were greeted by Dad who told us the neighbour’s niece had just called to say the neighbour’d passed away in the hospital a few hours ago.

7. Who’s there?

buzzlightbeer27:

A few years ago, I was home alone at night time. I was watching tv in the living room when I heard the doorbell ring. Whenever I hear the doorbell ring, especially, when I’m home alone I am cautious to answer it. I walk up to the peephole without turning on the porch light (so they don’t know if anyone is actually home or not) and look through. It’s really dark but I can see a small figure (more like, black blob, idk it’s definite shape and had to be around 3-4 feet) doing like a dancing motion. Dipping down and oscillating its “arms” outward. Think of a person moving their arms like wings gracefully. It was dark outside but this figure was more opaque so I could see this going on. After a few seconds I stopped looking through the peephole because it was too freaky to look at. I regained some courage and looked back through and whatever it was was gone. To this day I still don’t know what that was and I get freaked out thinking about it.

8. What made him leave in such a rush?

samissleman17:

There’s an abandoned house next to mine, the previous owner moved out to California 25 years prior and never sold it. I got a flashlight, gloves, and pushed the window open and went inside, starting with the basement. In the basement was a grand piano (still plays, but very much out of tune), old WW2 stuff, what seemed to be a signed Elvis poster, some other really cool shit no one should ever leave behind. There’s basically a whole story in that basement, including a broken wedding picture frame and instruments everywhere. On the main floor was an unmade bed, molded food still in the fridge and on the stovetop, half-empty beers turned solid, lights that still hadn’t been turned off. Then I started walking upstairs when I heard crying from one of the side rooms. That’s when I freaked the fuck out and haven’t been there since.

9. Twisted backwoods couple

CurvedStraightLine:

I was just talking about this today. Scary because of human nature.

My neighbor at my old apartment was a state park ranger for years, now retired. Apparently when he first got the job, there was a younger kid who went missing while out on a camping or hiking trip.

They organize a huge search of the area to no avail. No clues or anything, kid is just missing.

A few years go by, and some evidence turns up that wasn’t in the direction they originally searched. It was part of his camping equipment. On his off time my neighbor took to searching the area where it was found hoping for more clues.

Just outside the state park lived a couple in a ramshackle hovel who were quite reclusive and odd. One day my neighbor had to talk to them about something unrelated to the missing kid. He is in their house, which is a mess of junk, no running water, etc. Hard to focus on anything there. While he is talking to this couple he realizes that the guy’s ashtray looks weird. He looks closer and realizes that it’s a skull, and it looks small.

There’s this investigation into the couple, and here is where things get really weird. An investigation shows that they were innocent of killing the kid. He probably died of exposure or dehydration. Apparently this guy came across the body afterwards and his dogs were after it. When he took the skull, it was really recent after death and apparently was still a head–features, hair, everything. The guy took it and defleshed the damn thing and took the top off to use as an ashtray.

Apparently he was well aware there was a then current search for missing child and could recognize the kid from the pictures, but it never dawned on him or his wife to go to the cops and inform them of the find. He just saw an opportunity for an ashtray.

Apparently he showed them where the remains were and they scrounged together enough for burial, but kept it quiet so that the family didn’t know some guy put out his Marlboros in their kids head for five years after letting his dogs eat his remains.

10. Mom’s new boyfriend

aett:

About five years ago, my mom started dating a guy she met on a dating site.

That part is fine – I had recently started dating the woman who would later become my wife and we had met online (I’ll just refer to her as my wife for this story). Anyway, my wife and I never really liked this guy. We didn’t think he was mean or anything like that, just a little creepy – he was quiet, he kept his eyes closed a lot, and occasionally said odd things like offering my wife a chocolate and then popping one in his mouth, closing his eyes, and moaning as he let it melt in his mouth. One time my wife and I were visiting my mom but she got called into work, so we waited at her house. Her boyfriend was over but he spent the entire several hours just hanging out in her bedroom with the door closed.

Just before Christmas, my mom and this guy started having some difficulties. My wife and I were visiting her for the holidays and she dropped all of her problems on us and we listened carefully and told her our opinions and suggested that she would be better off without him. She already had her mind made up, though, and decided to break up with him… on Christmas Eve.

We spent the night at my mom’s and got up early on Christmas morning to visit my dad at his house. We didn’t plan to spend the night at my dad’s, but we got snowed in, which was actually a nice Christmas surprise.

The next day we left as soon as we could get through the snow and my wife suggested that we stop by my mom’s house on the way so that we could see if she was okay. My wife just had a really bad feeling about my mom’s now-ex-boyfriend.

My mom’s car was in the driveway, but that doesn’t mean much because she lives close enough to work that she often walks and it hadn’t snowed in her town. She also never locks her door, which drives me crazy, so we let ourselves in. That’s when we see blood OOZING out of the refrigerator’s water dispenser. It had filled up the spill container and was leaking onto the floor and had made a puddle. My wife screamed and I freaked out. I fully expected to see my mom’s head in the freezer.

I nervously opened the freezer to find… a bag of frozen cherries that had been opened, crammed into the freezer so that it fell onto the ice dispenser, and melted.

11. Falling through the ice

Travelberry:

When I was 10 or so I went with my dad to go ice fishing and it had just snowed the night before so you couldn’t see the ice. On our way out to the ice house I ended up falling straight through an unmarked hole that had a very thin layer of ice covering it. The scariest part of this was instantly shutting down and sinking because of the cold. I could look up and see where I had fallen through but couldn’t swim back up to it. After a few seconds I finally willed myself up and to the edge where my dad pulled me the rest of the way out.

12. WWIII

ohchaunt:

I was out camping at the ranch with my father. He bought it so we could have some similar work experiences and character building that he had when he grew up on a farm/ranch in idaho.

Anyway, it was about sunset and We see this long cloud, that was jagged. lit up by the sun. Never seen anything like it. It was obviously a missile.

We thought WW3 had broken out and here come the nukes. I remember being worried for my family in a larger city about 30 miles away.

edit: this was in like 1998, and it turns out it was a test launch in california. A state away.

13. Bad premonition

Adddicus:

My ex-wife had several weird experiences. I’ll just relate this one. I’m at work one day when she calls me out of the blue (we were still married at the time). She usually did not call me during the day because she worked the night shift. She tells me to call my friend Danny and make sure he and his family are okay. When I ask why, she tells me that she had a dream but can’t remember it, but that I should call Danny and make sure he’s okay.

So I call Danny and check in with him. I tell him about my wife’s dream. He’s mildly amused but tells me that he and his family are fine and to thank my wife for her concern. I call her back and let her know all is well. She’s very dubious when she hears the news.
I found out later that within half an hour of my phone call to Danny, he got another call from his uncle in Florida to tell him that Danny’s son had hung himself.

14. Listening to your dreams

LukaCat:

My granddad had a dream about his sister being in a plane crash, so he called her in the morning. She was fine but planning a short trip later that day to visit her son or something. He told her to postpone a day. The flight she would have been on crashed

15. What’s in the trunk?

persepolisp:

I rode out in front of a car on my bike when I was 11 and the car honked really loud at me. I stupidly flipped the car off and they came to a screeching halt. A huge guy stepped out and went to open his trunk. His girlfriend (?) got out of the passenger’s side crying and screaming begging him not to open the trunk. I was frozen in fear. He got back in the car and sped off. I have no idea what was in the trunk. Hopefully not a fully automatic machine gun on a turret.

16. Freaking spiders

kls17:

I got home from work late one night, was walking onto my front stoop when I walked right into this huge spiderweb. At first I didn’t think much of it until I looked down and saw about 20-30 baby spiders all over me. I started freaking out, then noticed the parents sitting on my front door. They were huge, bigger than a quarter, so of course I did not want to use the front door. I run to my back door, throw all of my clothes off, and jump in the shower. I then watch as baby spiders begin falling out of my hair.

17. Creepy old people

eddieswiss:

My sister and I were playing outside when we were younger and an elderly couple was walking by our yard. Our yard had a cemetery in the back, so it was quite a common local attraction for tourists as this house was built in the 1800s, and most of the graves were from children who died back then from the flu, etc. There are some creepy stories from that place, but nothing lives up to what happened all those years ago. Playing outside, and this old couple kept pestering my sister about what her name was, as they approached us, and got closer. We were just little kids, and got terribly scared, and ran inside and told our mom what had happened. The following week I heard a story on the news about an elderly couple approaching a teenage girl, kidnapping her, and raping her, and it was the same couple that had approached my sister and I.

18. “The farmer”

Tucker48:

My mother in law was a very funny and cool woman. She and my wife were really close and sadly, she passed away when our son was about 4 months old. Flash forward a few years. We live in an old 1930s era craftsman house in Pasadena, CA. Our son is about 3 at the time.

I was giving him a bath one night and he starts looking over my shoulder, not at random stuff, but at something. A moment passes and he asks me why Grandma calls Mommy a funny name. Long pause. I asked him what he meant thinking he was talking about MY mom. He then says why does Grandma call Mommy ****** (My mother in laws nickname for my wife). I was really set back by this. My wife and I never used the nickname, it was just what her mom called her since she was a baby. I asked him where he heard that. His reply:
“The Farmer told me”

I asked him who the farmer was and he replied “his friend” I tell my wife this story later and shes of course reduced to tears over the whole nickname thing. We both know there is no way for him to know this and we just kinda marvel at it.

Flash forward to the next weekend and my son is playing in his room. My wife is at work (retail) and I’m home (I worked M-F).

I hear him start talking like he’s having a conversation. He’s saying things like “yes” “no” “I dont know that” then some laughing. I go into his room and ask him what hes doing and he says playing. I ask with who. He says The Farmer.

At this point I’m already thinking about the fucking Exorcist movie and Captain Howdy. It’s a little unsettling. I ask him where the Farmer is. He says he left when I came in.
THE FUCK. So my wife gets home and I tell her this and now shes just as weirded out as I am. We have no idea what do and figure if it happens again we’ll do something.

A few days later in the middle of the night we both over hear our son saying the following: “Grandma says you and I can’t be friends anymore”

Wife and I go check on him, both of us a little freaked. He’s just sitting up in bed. I ask if he’s ok and he says yea, Grandma says i cant play with the Farmer anymore.

He never once mentioned the Farmer again. Not ever. He’s 13 now and doesnt remember any of it. We do tho.

19. The white SUV

unarmedcivilian:

When I was young, I’d say 8-11ish, my sister whom is 7 years older would babysit me when my parents were out. At the time, she smoked a lot and my parents made her smoke outside of course. So, I’d follow her outside into the carport (which faced the street) and play around, annoy her and such.

One day my sister notices a car at the end of the driveway, just sitting in the road. It’s a white suv (I believe a mid 90s bravada? bravado, not sure) with a bike rack on top. It has the most tinted windows I have ever seen, you could NOT see inside from the side. It sat there until she went inside, then would drive to the end of the road and sit at the church parking lot and wait. Wait until she’d come out again for another smoke. And it would repeat this.

Odd, but my sister is a brave lady and just kind of ignored it. That is, until the next day while my parents were out again and it showed up again. It would sit at the end of the driveway. And just… watch? I don’t know what the driver was doing. But he was watching my sister (if I didn’t go out, I’d watch from the front window and it would just sit there and watch my sister).

She told my father, who was a Sherrif deputy at the time and he called the cops made a complaint. They showed up, looked around but the SUV was nowhere to be seen. Months went by, and nothing. Then one day, a good nine months after this had all started and 4ish since the last sighting, it was back. It became a regular occurrence.

Another day, my sister was outside doing her nasty habit, and sure enough here it comes. This time we were alone as usual, and she decides she’s had enough. She tells me to stay in the carport, and she’s going to go confront them.

She starts walking toward the SUV. and halfway down the driveway she would later remark to us “I felt utter terror, like I knew if I went any further, I was dead. I was paralyzed by pure fear”. She turned around and went inside.

Finally, the family car was in the shop for some kind of issue so we were all stuck home for a night and had to get delivery, etc. while my parents are home, my sister goes outside to smoke. I go outside with her, and eventually the SUV shows up. She tells me to run inside and tell my father, and I do.

My dad promptly gets his gun and starts briskly walking down the drive way with it inhand, in the direction of the SUV, but not levelled towards it. The SUV floored it, down the road and peeled out onto the nearby large highway. My dad, being a cop, noted the year and model and distinguishing features. The scariest thing? The license plate had been covered in duct tape.

We never saw it again

20. WHAT.THE.FUCK

corby315:

One day while doing my laundry one of the lights blew out in my basement. My basement is set up so that the laundry room is split from the other side of the basement with a wall and a door. In order to get upstairs you have to exit the laundry room and go through the other part of the basement.

So the light blew in the other part, not the laundry room. As it was the only light on that side, it was pretty fucking dark. I finished the laundry I had to do while dreading the walk through the dark basement. I exit the laundry room, get half way through the basement, and I hear a loud cackle. Imagine a sound people make when they imitate a witch. Take that and imagine that the witch had been smoking for 50 years, making her voice deeper and hoarser. That is what I heard, clear as day, right behind me.

I did not look hesitate to bolt for the stairs. I waited until my father got home and then changed the bulb. I have yet to hear that cackle since, and I have not told a single person in the house about it.

21. Ghost mom

abistigmata:

I grew up in a house on Long Island in the town of Brentwood, it was a quiet town for its location. My dad worked as a taxi driver at the time, which meant he would usually end up coming home early in the morning and i would greet him. So its Saturday, i’m watching cartoons, and my dad comes in and I run to say hello. My mom hears us from the bedroom and says “Hello honey don’t go in the pool its not ready yet!”. Me and my dad think well that’s weird it’s 6 AM we weren’t going to go in the pool , but just brush it off and he goes on tell me his usual stories of the crazies he picked up through out the night. We then realized it was Saturday and my mom was at work, and it was only me and him in the house, The voice sounded just like my mother.

Fast forward a couple of weeks (we had just moved into the house) and my new neighbors come over to welcome us to town. It was the 2 mothers, 2 sons (1 my age 1 a little older in 10th grade) 2 little girls (1 blonde haired girl and a shy brunette that didn’t talk). We get to playing some soccer, however the little brunette girl is nowhere to be found. The curious little kid i was i ran around the property and i find her playing in the woods, a dangerous area for little nooblets to be exploring. She asks me to come play tag but i decline, wanting to get everyone in on the game. The reactions of everyone as i asked for them to join us was puzzling, along with the response from the mom “we only have 1 daughter”. Turns out a small Brown haired girl drowned in the pool 10 years ago, the mother soon passed from a heart attack.

22. Unsettling

Lobonaut:

I moved to Montreal and got a new Canadian phone number. Over the next 8 months I’d get texts and calls from french people at strange hours of the day asking for “Nina”, several times a month.

On an April morning while I was in bed I get a call from a withheld number from some French woman asking for Nina. Apparently she was with Montreal police, and Nina had been missing for over a year.

23. WOW

ppkthrowaway:

About two years ago my ex and I went through a really nasty breakup. Lots of crying and nasty words said. It became apparent that she had a lot of emotional problems and really wasn’t the person I thought she was. Lots of anger, and lots of lying as I discovered. And to make things stranger, she is the one who dumped me (multiple times) and was absolutely furious when I finally accepted it and told her it was time for her to go. I wasn’t exactly perfect here either, but that’s what happens. I had also started a new and healthy relationship at this point maybe 3 weeks after the primary breakup which pissed her off to no end. Anyway she shows up one day to collect some belongings that were still at my place and she sits me down on the bed and hands me a note telling me to read it out loud. It’s a really nasty speech about how I’m incapable of love, and a terrible person, and deserve to die. I refuse but she’s screaming at me and I just was like fine I’ll read it if it’ll make you go away.

So i finish the speech and then she pulls out a loaded gun from her purse and spends about the next 15 minutes trying to muster the will to pull the trigger and splatter my brain all over the wall. She says she knows the law, she knows she’ll be caught, she knows where she’ll go to prison and she’s fine with it because I’ll be off this planet. So I spend this time trying (poorly) not to totally freak out and with tears streaming down my face telling her that she’s not a killer and just needs to go live her life without me.

We parted with a hug and I just learned she got engaged to a new guy a couple months ago.

24. My blood bag popped

d2hazn:

I once was giving blood at my school’s blood drive. So they put the needle in and I passed out. The nurse just happen to leave and when I woke up I wondered why everything was wet. Then I opened my eyes and my everything was soaked in my own blood. I screamed then passed out again. Never giving blood again.

25. “They don’t like you”

itsamirror:

About ten years ago (at age 19) I was very good friends with a girl who was as interested in the paranormal as I was. She bought a ouija type board called “Psychic Circle” – it had words, photos, symbols and a book that told you how to interrupt it. We never had much luck with it. One night she took it over to her aunt’s house and they apparently had a really intense experience with it. Her aunt asked her to leave it for a few nights, so she could use it on her own. My friend left it and we made plans to visit her aunt that weekend so we could all play together.

So that Friday night we head over in hopes of a good supernatural experience. As soon as I got in the car, I just had a feeling of dread. I’ve had a few brushes with paranormal stuff in the past and the prospect wasn’t frightening to me – but I just felt wrong about it.

We get to her aunt’s house and her aunt pretty much seems to dislike me the second I walked in the door. The feeling of dread is even more intense once I got to the house. I just sort of brushed it off as paranoia and tried to be friendly. My friend’s aunt takes the board out of the box and it looked old as fuck. Weathered like it had been left in the sun for a few years. The previously bright colors were faded and worn. My friend said “What happened to the board?!” and her aunt told her it had been “sweating”.

So aunt puts it on the table, looking at me with the utmost of suspicion. At this point I felt absolutely terrified and my palms are clammy and shaky. I put them on the oracle and her aunt says “NO.” I take them off and she says “They don’t like you. They don’t want to answer your questions. I can just tell.”

We leave very shortly after that. My friend is upset. She says that whole episode was very out of character for her aunt. Her aunt refused to give the board back and I wound up buying my own. No luck with that one, either. Took it as a sign and gave it to some other friends.

26. No….. Please, no.

WTFisabanana:

I had a stalker for about two years. It started at my first apartment when I was 18. He would do little stuff like stand on my porch and tap on the windows or walk around the back yard (I could tell because there was lots of rocks back there that you could here sloshing around) I called the cops they checked it out and said they didn’t see anything. Plus I started tuning it out just figuring it was a wild animal or passer by since It was a row house and there was loads of neighbors.

After about six months me and my boyfriend decided to go see a concert out of town. We left our dogs in the basement and hid the to the house because my brother would come by a few times a day and let the dogs out. When we got home things started getting weird. I should mention three things, one my bedroom had the door to the attic in it with one of those chain locks on it and two the next door apartment was abandoned and three we never went into the attic because it had holes in the floor.

At night we started hearing noises in the attic it sounded like footsteps and the dogs would growl at the door all night. We didn’t find out what the noises were until we moved out. We went up there to get our Christmas decorations and someone had broken the brick and walls apart that separated the two apartments. The other apartment had a bed in the attic and other miscellaneous stuff. We called the lad lot who called the cops and we didn’t have any more strange things happen until about 4 Months into moving into the new place which is where It gets really bad.

My underwear started coming up missing and the house would look like it was being rooted through. The bad side of the new house was it didn’t lock on the side door but my bf nailed the door shut. I go outside one night to let the dogs out and there is a guy outside on the road he starts saying my name over and over and over again. I go inside and call the cops sure enough he’s not there but now at night I can see him walk up and down the road.

One night my bf has to work until midnight and my roommate won’t be home until 6am so I am home alone for three hours. Since I’m scared to sleep alone I lock all the doors turn on the bathroom light and turn on the tv and my fan. I also locked the dogs in the room with me. About an hour after falling asleep I am awakened by the dogs barking loudly but it doesn’t sound like they are in the room. So I sit up and everything is shut off my boyfriend walks in the room and informs me that he is home early and not to worry the power is just out. So I fell back asleep. Until two hours later when my boyfriend comes in the room and asks why everything is off and the dog one dog was Locked in my roommate room and the other was bleeding, I jump out of bed and call the cops.

At which point I notice semen on my bed.

27. How I got PTSD

Scotch_and_Cyanide:

I was sleeping at 3am in my basement room. Wake up to the sound of someone moaning in agony on the couch. The way my room is laid out I couldn’t see him, so I just assumed I was hearing things and tried to go back to sleep. Didn’t go away. Five minutes later, leaned up and saw his legs and shoes. Oh, same as a friend who had been over earlier. Nope.

Lean up farther, he’s Hispanic (friend is Greek). I sit there for thirty seconds and my first thought is to attack the fellow (I had a 3″ knife on my nightstand, he hadn’t noticed me, weird room). Instead, I remember my room locks from the outside (converted basement). I move, he hears me and chases me out of the room. I get there first, and lock him in.

I sprint up two flights of stairs to wake up my parents (I’m fifteen) and they just think I’m having a bad dream or something. They walk downstairs and right as they approach my room, the edge of a 10lb weight from my room breaks through the door. Oh, there’s actually a guy in there. My mum reached for the phone and called 911, while my father (with her) went up to the middle floor of the house a drew a broadsword from the mostly decorative suit of armor in the living room, and tells me to fetch the cavalry saber from the umbrella stand (weird family, kay?).

Five minutes later police arrive, open the door and arrest the poor fellow, who was drugged out of his mind (PCP). Apparently he got in diving through a window. I take sleeping meds so it didn’t wake me when it shattered. They inform us it’s technically a citizen’s arrest because of the confinement.

It’s been a few months later and I was diagnosed with PTSD mid-August. The hallucinations/flashbacks are brutal. But the worst part is the shame (“…you got PTSD from that”?).

28. Lil Alien

CannibalOrphan:

Around 5 years ago I´m pretty sure i saw an alien. I was 12 years old and I had just moved to Querétaro, Mexico from the United States with my parents and my brother. Since we didn´t have a place to stay, my grandma let us stay at her house for a couple of years before movin out. Anyway, since my grandma´s house was in a pretty bad neighbourhood, my mother would park the car in a “guarded” parking lot about 2 blocks from the house, so everyday we would walk two blocks at 5:00 am to get the car out of the parking lot and drive to school. One day, we were walking towards the parking lot when all of a sudden my mom stops me and tells me to be quiet. Baffled, i ask what was going on, she then proceeds to point at a tree that was perhaps 8-10 meters away from us. I then see a small pointy-eared figure that would pop its head out from behind the tree, kinda like a little boy teasing us. This was no little boy. It was a small grey creature with big eyes just looking at us. My mom the proceeded to grab me by the hand and start walking on another direction.

29. Gentle ghost

AuroraRaven:

Fell asleep in my living room after my parents had left for a date. I was deep asleep when I felt my hair being petted, I thought maybe I just didn’t hear my folks come in, opened my eyes to no one there. Still creeps me the fuck out to this day.

30. “I’ll see you soon”

loeleetah:

Not to me, but to my nana and it freaks me out to this day.

My nan has a very good friend she has known since her nursing days, and back when they both had their kids and had grown into women, her friends ex-husband rang up my nan. He was very depressed and needed someone to talk to, but my nan had to say that unfortunately she couldn’t go over to see him as she had just had a new born (my father), was breastfeeding and needed to feed. He said he understood and said “I’ll see you soon then.”
My grandad was on nights at work at this time, so she wasn’t expecting anyone home or to visit until the next morning. At about 9pm that night, she heard their front gate open (it was a very vocal gate, she liked it that way so that when she was alone she knew when someone walked up to the house.) She assumed that maybe grandad had been sent home or forgot something, so thought nothing of it.

That was until the family dog, Ben, began to stiffen up and growl toward the front door and nobody opened it. He began to bark. Nan insists he had never been like that. He was a dog that had been brought up around 4 youngsters. Placid, patient and kind.

She tried to get up to open the front door to see if some kids were playing around with her, but she couldn’t. She was frozen in her place on the chair. She said she felt icy cold for about 2 minutes. The fire was blaring. Nan described that after the cold began to fade, she felt very calm and serene, and heard the front gate go once more.

In the morning, when grandad returned home, she explained to him what happened and at what time. He told her he had some terrible news. That her friends ex-husband had commited suicide at about 8.50pm that evening. It took about ten minutes walk to my nan’s house then from his.

31. Cursed

leslieinlouisville:

When I was about 8-9, we lived in a house that my father built for us in the middle of nowhere, Indiana. My parents owned a small business that often brought clients to our remote little homestead, and over the years, we met some rather odd people. One such person was a strange man that gave me the heebeejeebees as soon as I saw him. He arrived at our home in a black car with tinted windows, wearing all black, with a black hat and dark sunglasses. His demeanor was very strange and he was very interested in our black Persian cat named Mercedes.

Nevertheless, he left after his consultation with my parents, but later at dinner, everyone admitted that he set them on edge. That night, Mercedes came down very ill. A few days later, after an illness the local vet couldn’t diagnose that included the cat vomiting up gobs of what appeared to be black tar, Mercedes died. In her final moments, she would swat and hiss at something in the air. I’ll never forget the chill I got when she took her last breath.

After this, many strange things began happening around our home. We’d find footprints in the show that started and stopped out of nowhere. Noises in the middle of the night, the wallpaper would be torn halfway off the walls. My mother, who has always been somewhat of a sensitive person, claimed to start seeing demonic creatures around the house and became rather withdrawn.

I had asthma, but had been a long while without an attack. Soon after all of this began happening, I started having episodes again. I was very sick one night, so I slept on the floor next to my mother’s side of the bed in my parents’ bedroom. Under their bed and around their were a bunch of boxes: family photos, wrapping paper, etc., things that we’d been meaning to store elsewhere.

In the middle of the night, I had a particularly bad asthma attack. I heard my mother wake up screaming “GET AWAY FROM HER!” and trying to get to me. Every box from under the bed and around the room had been stacked between where I lay on the floor and my mother’s side of the bed, preventing her from getting to me. She finally reached me and gave me my inhaler, and she cried all night.

She never told me what she saw that night, but strange things continued to happen for several more months. We had the house blessed and tried everything we could. Eventually, the activity started to slow. My brother and his family live in the house now, and they hear unexplainable sounds every so often, but nothing like what happened that winter. I grew up to be quite a skeptic, but I still can’t explain what happened that year. I just tell myself it was all in our heads.

32. My blood was stolen…

RandyKielbasa:

Not really a scary story just really unexplained. The details are a little hazy ( I had been drinking alot ) but I was down in toronto for a concert and long story short i got stopped by “The Police” and they arrest me and saythere taking me to the drunk tank, not a big deal I was very intoxicated and had been before. I pass out in the back of the car (forgot to mention it was an unmarked car sorta relavent) and the wake me up and we’re at some building that looks somewhat like a warehouse, not the police station. Any ways we get inside and its like a hospital. The cops leave me there and people come up and start taking blood but like weird ammounts more than you normally would take. Still not worried at all because im absolutley shitfaced at this point but then it gets weird. The nurse lookin people lead me into a bedroom where i guess i was suppose to sleep and some bouncer type guy slams me on the floor throws me into bed and straps me there, like seven or eight straps across my body. At this point i start goin apeshit left alone in some pitch black room strapped in unable to move. Anyways i pass out and heres were it gets really weird i wake up in these bushes beside burger king, i didnt get robbed still had my phone and my wallet with 15 $ in it. It boggles my mind to this day i have no idea what happend my friends think i was druged but i dont know i swear it was real

33. Little girl ghost

RosiePALM5:

Six years ago when I was 19, I was staying the night at my two best friend’s house. All three of us were sleeping on the bed and I woke up in the middle of the night. There was a girl, around six or seven years old standing at the foot of the bed looking at us. I was so freaked out I just kept looking back at her. I was too scared to do anything. She slowly faded away. I swear this really happened but I’m not sure if it was a ghost or if I was some how semi awake and dreamt it. Scariest thing I have ever experienced though, regardless if it was my imagination or really a ghost. I didn’t tell my friends for a couple months because I couldn’t really believe it so I thought they definitely wouldn’t. Then a few months after I saw the girl they were telling me how one night they were in their room and they heard children laughing in the living room. They went to their bedroom door to listen better and when they got to the door there was a loud thunk on it… like someone hit it. They ran out of the room thinking someone was in their house but when they checked the house there was no one there and all the doors were still locked. I told them about the girl I saw when they told me what happened to them.

34. War story

CatchingRays:

My first night in Somalia. We had to set up a camp. We used the embassy golf coarse. There was nearly no moon. There were gaping artillery holes in the wall surrounding the compound. We wired them all. A bulldozer dug the defensive holes after the sun went down. I pulled duty on one of the holes a little before midnight for a few hours.
The guys we relieved complained about the smell of the hole. I got in and they did not exaggerate. The smell in the fighting hole was horrid and we were being poked by jagged rocks.

I was able to sleep in the next morning after the night duty. When I got up and went outside to wash up, there was a lot of activity by the hole I was in a few hours before.
The hole was dug in a poorly marked graveyard. The activity at the site was loved ones claiming remains. The smell, decomposition. The jagged “rocks”, bone shards.

35. Redirect loop

RhiaWilder:

Many… interesting things have happened to me and my family, but this one never fails to make my palms sweat and eyes tear from fear. This particular one is my aunt’s story, and is 100% real.

My aunt is a retired middle school science teacher. She loves all aspects of the subject; botany, geology, archaeology… During her time as a teacher, she would take “workshops” during the summers offered through the school district. One in particular was set in New Mexico. So, off she went with a group of fellow teachers.

One night after an exhausting day of field studies, my aunt and her group were headed back to their hotel near Roswell. It was around midnight, but the hotel wasn’t far from their site. Because of this, they didn’t feel like they needed a map (GPS’s weren’t even thought of yet!). The group passed an old, rinky-dink convenient store on the side of a four way stop, and remebered that earlier in the day, they had passed it on their way to the site. From the stop, they went straight. Ten minutes later, they pass the same store. The group laughed, thinking the sun and their exhaustion had made their memory foggy. Confident, they kept going straight. Ten minutes in, the store is passed again. Worried, the group heads right at the stop. The same store is passed again. They take a left. It is passed again. And again.

I’m not sure how they all finally made it back, but my aunt says that she felt like she was in the Twilight Zone; like the store was a prop in a huge, terrifying joke. Gives me weird chills, man!

36. D-E-V-I-L

Khrull:

I’ll share mine. It didn’t actually happen to me but it happened to my Mom when she was a teenager. My Mom now is in her mid 60’s. She’s not an overly religious woman, she doesn’t read teh bible regularly, rarely goes to church but she prays every night cause that is what gives her comfort. I’ll have to side note this with I watched normal “horror” movies with her every so often, nothing too crazy or gory but spooky if you will sort of stuff. Well I asked her if she wanted to watch the Exorcist and she flat our 100% refused. She said there is absolutely no way she will EVER watch anything related to possession or exorcisms. Well this was curious…so the movie Constantine comes out and I show her the trailer asking her if she wants to watch it….she sees the girl near the beginning climbing the ceiling and just refuses AGAIN. I should also note, my mother will refuse and kick you out of her house if you even think about bringing a Oujia board into the house…she’ll yell, scream and cuss until you drop the subject and that’s that….this is important.

Alright so that little back story is out of the way, I ended up asking her why exactly she refuses to watch those sort of movies…well she tells me when she was a teenager, at a sleepover at a friends house, they were up playing games, the parents watching TV. Her friends and her self are on the floor playing a board game…a game my mom has never played before. Well come to find out it’s a Oujia board and she doesn’t know what it does, well they start playing asking a bunch of questions. They end up finding out there is a spirit in the house, so they ask it to show itself. Nothing happens, they DEMAND it to show itself. This was her first indication something wasn’t right…cause the lights all around the house, every single room went out immediately including the TV, and then snapped right back on, spooky huh? Nah, just a fluke.

They ask the next question…”Who are you?” The piece moves round the board in big cirlces with their hands on it and stops at the letter D. Moves to the letter E, then to the letter V, I, L. Wow someone must be messing with it. This can’t be real…So they ask, if you are the Devil, then show yourself. Nothing happens for a while, and then suddenly the TV goes out. Well in the reflection in the TV sitting in the living room next to them my Mom and her friends, even her parents could make out the shape of something…something terrifying just sitting there, next to them…the house got extremely cold.

Suddenly loud noises could be heard in the kitchen, stuff flying off the top of the refridgerator and cupboards oepning and closing. They immediately stop the game, close it up adn throw it in the trash never to play one again. Later that night my Mom is sound asleep and is awoken by something loud and clanging on the roof. She listens intently and she can hear what sounds like chains and dogs up on the roof. Well that’s not possible, it must be outside somewhere. She wakes up the next morning and goes and talks to her friends parents, asks them if any of their neighbors have any dogs…they tell her no…and they tell her they also heard the dogs and chains up on the roof last night.

So that’s the story of why my Mom refuses to watch anything that involves exorcisms. She truly believes that the devil was there with them that night, sitting next to them. And the messed up thing is…every time she tells me that story…I get this cold shiver down my spine that there is no way she would be making this up.

37. The darkest neighbor

ravenklaw:

When my grandmother was about 60, she lived in a nice cul-de-sac surrounded by woods. One of her neighbors was about 20 years old and lived with his mom. One day, he asks my grandma if she would mind showing him where the blackberry bushes are in the forest, because his mom wanted to make a pie. She says okay, grabs a basket and a flashlight and they head off into the woods together.

About half a mile into the woods, he attacks her. He pulls a knife from his pocket and slits her throat. She fights back and he slits her throat again, making blood pour from her neck, but he somehow didn’t cut the arteries deep enough to kill her immediately. After a couple minutes, she realizes there is no escape, so she pretends she is dead, faking her breathing while he rips her clothes off. He strips her lower-half nude and tries to rape her, but I guess the whole “fucking grandma’s corpse” isn’t appealing enough because he can’t keep his dick up. He gets quiet, listening to her lack of breathing to make sure she’s dead, before he stuffs his dick back in his pants and leaves her in the middle of the woods, taking the flashlight with him.

She stays still for about five minutes, bleeding out, before she thinks the coast is clear. She wraps her discarded sweatpants tightly around her neck and walks the opposite direction, through about three miles of dark woods… She eventually comes upon a small road and collapses in front of an oncoming car.

The people in the car stop just in time, and bring her to a hospital.

She survived.

38. Ghost kids

codeusasoft:

when I was younger we lived in a apartment complex which my mother managed, the day before halloween she was telling us all a scary story about how two little boys and their mom died above us (vacant apartment) and how if you listen closely you can still hear their footsteps running up and down the hallway.

Well at that very moment what do we hear? The sound of running upstairs. The look on my mothers face was pure terror, so she called the cop that patrols the neighborhood and one of the on duty maintenance guys and they went into the apartment.

Turns out a a homeless mother had slipped in through an opened window with her two children and had been living up there for sometime.

And my mother never told another ghost story again.

39. “I was never outside”

Kickagnome:

This isn’t my story, so it takes away from the horror factor a bit, but it’s from a good friend that I know doesn’t make shit up.

His story happens when he was about 8. He was playing hide and seek with his friend at his house, it was late… Probably about 10ish. It’s my friends turn to find his friend. He’s looking everywhere around the house, but he can’t seem to find him anywhere. He eventually decides he must be hiding outside. So he leaves the house to find him.

He starts searching around some bushes when he hears his friends voice coming from a dark corner maybe 20 feet away. They voice calls for him to come over. He didn’t, because he was already spooked out enough being outside in the pitch black. My friend yelled back, “no! You come over here!”

That’s when he said it really started to get spooky. He told me the voice that sounded just like his friend kept insisting that he come over to the dark corner. My friend kept saying no over and over again. At this point, he said the the voice suddenly changed to a dark, horrible sounding voice demanding he come over. At this point he ran back inside, only to see his friend in the living room. When questioned how he got inside so fast, the friend said he never went outside.

Now, I know both of these 2 guys. None of them make up shit. And I doubt it’s the case of an “imagination gone wild”.

Whatever that voice was, it still spooks me just thinking about this story.

40. Silhouette

chenry123:

I grew up in a house that’s pretty old. It was built in 1856. The dining room has a giant window facing the front porch. The porch rapped around the house to the kitchen door on the side. There is a living room right next to the dining room that gives a perfect view of the window.

One night, while I was visiting home from college, I was watching television in the living room. I was the only one awake in the house. My mother was asleep and my father and sister were elsewhere. I hear a small clicking noise and direct my eyes over to the dining room window and I see a silhouette of a large man in a flannel or a coat and wearing a baseball cap. He was just standing at the window, facing into the house. My heart about exploded but I didn’t move an inch. If he was watching me, I didn’t want him to know that I saw him. I got up, walked over to the stairs and as soon as I reached them, I sprinted up to my room. I grabbed and loaded my .35 caliber Marlin 336C, and my uncle’s combat knife that he used in Vietnam. I walked downstairs, threw on all the lights and busted out the kitchen door as I cocked my rifle.

Firmly, but without yelling, I said, “I have a gun, come out and I won’t shoot you.”
Two footsteps on the wooden porch. I swung around to the front porch, completely prepared to attack someone, but there was nothing.

I spent about an hour searching around the 2.5 acre property for this person but I never found anything. I didn’t sleep that whole week.

41. Worst boyfriend ever

cara_pox:

I was with my boyfriend at the time. We were laying in my bed and the lights were out. We weren’t talking, just both thinking. All of the sudden he rolls over and hugs me really tightly. I, of course, hug him back. But then this feeling just hit me. If I wasn’t already laying down, it would have knocked me over. It was a total feeling of dread and panic. I’ll admit, I have had panic attacks in the past. But this was not the same. I hugged my boyfriend back as hard as I could. I never felt a feeling like this before. My boyfriend is one of those people who always is really warm, but even in his arms I felt ice cold. I could feel this evil, awful feeling and it seemed like it was coming from the corner of my room. It was kind of like sensing your friend behind you when they aren’t saying anything. I honestly believe there was a demon or something in my room. I got the courage to speak, and I said, “Jay, do you feel that?” and he said he did- the cold, evil feeling.

This all happened in about thirty seconds to a minute. He decided to call his friend who was studying to be a youth pastor. I got up and turned the lights on and came back to the bed. He called Matt and put him on speaker phone. Matt prayed for us and we both closed our eyes and listened, praying in our heads. When the prayer was done the room felt lighter and it wasn’t cold anymore. But after a little small talk afterwards, Matt asked, “Were you two talking while I was praying?” We were like, of course not. We were just listening. He said he heard- from the phone- a deep, gravelly voice telling him to stop. And he said he felt an awful, evil feeling overcome him while he was praying.

Fucking freaked me out. Boyfriend drove home immediately afterwards because he was super freaked out (I was kind of mad he wouldn’t stay with me because I was scared too). I went in my dad’s room to tell him I thought there a demon came into my room. He was sleeping though, and just muttered something about having a gun and he’d shoot it (thanks, dad).
So yes. I am convinced it was a demon. But it never came back, so…. Why the fuck did it come? That’s the only problem I have with the whole thing. What was it trying to accomplish? I don’t think I’ll ever know.

42. Don’t look back

SoundInvasion:

This happened to my mother’s uncle in the 70s in India. I couldn’t believe this story when my mom first told it to me but after meeting her uncle a year before he passed away, my view changed.

My mother’s uncle, who I’ll just call unc. for short, lived in a rural Indian village. Electricity was present, but unreliable and the entire village basically became pitch black once the sun went down. Unc. was a sharp, well-respected accountant; he’d ride his bike long distances to meet with clients. This one evening, he was riding back home from a neighboring village and the path was particularly dark and desolate. As he was riding, he heard a voice calling out to him from behind. He knew there was no one else around but this voice sounded like his daughter’s. He knew this wasn’t possible because his daughter had died at age 5. Very scared, he peddled faster and tried not to turn around. In Indian superstition, you shouldn’t look back to hear voices of loved ones or friends calling you like this on dark, lonely roads because it is said it is demonic entities trying to trick you to get your attention. For some reason, unc. looked back and from that point, he was never the same again. He made it back home, but was deeply disturbed and mentally unstable for the remainder of his life. A once intelligent accountant was reduced to a dejected, mumbling, mental case. He refused to talk about what he saw to anyone, including me when I met him.

That look in his eyes when I met him freaks me out til this day.

43. Close call

kane55:

About 15 years ago I was working at the smallish company. They had about 75 employees. The owner of the company ended up selling it and the new owners came in and cleaned house. They fired about 15 people. A guy that I worked with (I’ll call him Dave here) was one of them. Dave was shocked that he was fired. Most people didn’t get along with Dave because he was odd. He had a short temper and sometimes yelled at people and he had some personal grooming problems like bad dandruff and body odor so many people were glad to see him go and it was no shock to many of us that he was fired.

About a week after the mass firing I am at work and get a phone call from Dave. He tells me that he wants to take me out to lunch as a way of saying thanks for my recently teaching him how to run a few different machines. That knowledge will help him get a new job. I agree to go and a few days later he shows up at lunch time. I had assumed he was taking several people from there out, but it turned out to be just me.

At lunch things started off fine then got strange. He was upset about being fired and was angry. I let him vent and sympathized with him. He had been then several years and felt betrayed. As lunch starts to wind down he tells me that I was one of the few people he liked there and that there were people there that he would love to hurt. It was a little strange, but I just thought he was still venting. We get in his car to drive back and he starts telling me how easy it would be to lock the doors from the outside with boards and burn the place down or to “do damage” to it. As we pull into the parking lot he tells me not to worry that even if he could hurt some of these people I was his friend. The way he said it really gave me the chills.

I said goodbye, got out of the car and went inside. There was a window near my boss’s desk that looks out to the parking lot. I could see Dave’s car from there. He wasn’t leaving. He was just sitting in his car. Lunch ends and everyone goes back to work and Dave was just sitting there. I tell my boss we need to call 911. Dave said some strange things I think he might try to hurt someone. My boss called 911 and the police get there within a few minutes. The talked to Dave, got him out of his car and then put him in the backseat of the police car. They then used his keys to open trunk. In the trunk they find a few boards, some rope and a few guns.

They talked more to Dave and he agreed to be taken into custody and to get some help. I don’t know if he would have done anything, but the way the building is designed, had he decided to he could have shot a lot of people in a very short period of time. I was so freaked out I couldn’t work the rest of the day.

44. Time of death

tmorel:

So about 9 or 10 years ago i was friends with this guy that ran a lan center. He would host gaming parties on friday nights and usually it would be packed with friends. The place was located inside an old shopping mall and you had to access it through the back door where the night guard would let you in and out.

So this friday we all go and are having a blast. I decide to go for a food and drinks run before all the shops close and i take everyones orders. Head out the back door and the back door is locked. I wait a minute and then call out for the guard. He appears from behind the door of his office and lets me out.

I go and come back and hes waiting for me. He opens the door and i go back to the lan center.

The weekend passed by and on monday i decide to go hangout at the lan center for a few minutes after school.

I walk in the mall and there’s cops everywhere and an awful stench. The shops were closed and the cops wouldn’t let me stay for long so i decide to go back home.

That night the news reported that there was a murder at that shopping mall. That a lady that managed the place found out that one of the guards was stealing and that after she confronted him he killed her and stuffed her in garbage bags inside his locker.

The murder took place the past friday and forensics estimate the time of death at around 9-10 pm.

After the news man said this my heart stopped. The tv showed a picture of the murderer and i immediately recognized it. It was usual night guard.

I get the shivers just from remembering this.

The time of death overlaps the time in which i went out for a food run that friday night. And the back door was just a few feet away from the office in which the murder took place.

45. Turn around

TsukiNiKawatte:

Back in high school I was part of our school’s cheer squad. During the summer before the new school year started, we’d all go to cheer camp (this one was held over a few days at a local university) and learn some new routines or stunts and compete with other cheer teams.

Now, I really wasn’t a typical cheerleader. I liked my space, and didn’t get rowdy with the others during our off time. I preferred to read or listen to music by myself in a room I shared with two other girls.

During these down times, all the other girls were always across the hall listening to music and going nuts. They always did this with their door open, so I kept mine closed so I could have some peace.

I was laying on my stomach in front of my boombox with my head facing away from the dorm door. All of a sudden I hear a female whisper “Turn around.”

I turn around and no one is there. I go back to what I was doing, and again, I hear someone say, “Turn around.” I figure I’m hearing voices carry over from the hallway, as the voice did sound like one of the girls on my team. I open the door to have a look outside, and surprisingly the hall is empty and the door across the way is shut. Couldn’t have been her. Again, I go back to what I was doing. This time, when I hear the voice say “Turn around” again, it was followed by two hard taps on my right shoulder. Oh HELL no.

I get up, look around. There is no one in the room. I go look in the closet that was closest to where the dorm door was (it was a shared closet that lead to the next room that was occupied by our coach). No one in there either. I figure, fuck that I’m not staying in this room alone, so I go across the hall into the other room. Everyone is busy doing their thing. I tell my friend about it (who is really into ghosts) and she keeps telling me to tell everyone about it, but I choose not to.

It happened to be the last night of our stay there, and our coach and one of her friends were telling ghost stories. The last story they tell us is how the area where we had been practicing, in front of a white gazebo, was where a wedding was supposed to have taken place. Something about some people that donated a lot of money to the school had it built for their daughter’s wedding. Their daughter ends up finding out that her fiance was cheating on her, and she hung herself from that gazebo. I thought it was interesting that the gazebo was the first thing I noted when I was assigned my room. It was right outside our only window. I don’t know how true their story was, but I loved how the smiles and laughter completely fell from my coach and her friend’s face when my friend had me relate my story.

No one slept in that dorm room that night.

46. Footsteps

somedaysomeway:

I used to live alone in a small, one bedroom upstairs apartment. At night, when I was either in bed or in the bathroom, I would hear someone walking across my little living room floor toward the balcony and back again. When it first started happening, I was too scared to do anything other than cower under the covers. My SO at the time (who lived in the apt. downstairs) would hear it as well when staying the night. One evening, I came home pretty late, climbed the stairs, unlocked and opened my front door, only to freeze in the doorway. You know that awareness you have when other people are in the room with you or nearby? That gut sense, how you just “know” someone’s there? I had the unshakable feeling that someone was in my apartment. And the light to the tiny balcony, which I never used, was on. I don’t know what I was thinking, but I quickly turned on the lights, took a deep breath and ran into the open kitchen for a knife. It was that real to me. From there I could see that there was no one on the balcony. That left the bedroom, bathroom and closet. Not sure why, but the closet was the scariest place to check. I have no clue how to fight with a knife, but I think a big part of me already knew I would not find a living person in my apt. And I didn’t, nor did I see anything that night. It was just that undeniable feeling, and it stayed with me for awhile. Feelings prove nothing… but I know for a fact I didn’t turn that light on. And the footsteps continued.

47. The whistling man

Moreloes:

My parents were on a trip to Europe (they are getting older and have plenty of money so they can travel wherever they want.) I was taking care of their house, I was home for the summer from school anyway so it was fine. I had been there for a few weeks and it was pretty quiet, I just went to work, came home, had some time with my boyfriend enjoying the house to ourselves. But one night I was just laying there watching TV, when I heard this really weird, low whistling sound coming from the window that was just behind the couch. It struck me as sort of odd, and I just sort of shrugged it off. But then it happened again. It totally sounded like there was a person standing at the window whistling up against it. I looked out the window, and obviously there was no one there. So I figured I should go check it out, if it were something like the wind on the siding, I should probably fix it because that would get annoying. So I walked out into the backyard. The backyard at my parents’ house is this super beautiful sparse sort of forest that leads to a road on the other side. So I looked at the house and didn’t see anything. But then I heard the sound again. It was coming from the woods in the back. I was pretty creeped out at this point, and of course I couldn’t see anything in the woods. So I hurried back through the door and locked it behind me. I never really heard the sound again for a few days. Until one night I was asleep in my room, and I could have sworn I was awakened by the whistling sound against my second floor window. I listened hard, and it was dead silent. So I decided I should go ahead and look out the window. I did that whole thing where I crept super slowly towards it, and just sort of peeked through it. Outside my window there was a man just standing there. I was really sleepy, so I can’t know how much of this I’m just misremembering, but he was just sitting there staring at me. I was completely frozen, and slowly, the man pursed his lips, and I could hear the whistle again. It was crystal clear, and made me feel like crying. I tore myself away from the window and hid under my covers. The next night I insisted that my boyfriend stay with me, he did, and of course nothing happened. He figured that I was just tired and delirious, and maybe I was right. It gets kind of anti-climactic here, but I didn’t hear it for another week or so, and when I did it was just one, small whistle happening randomly, coming from a wall or something. It just happens every week or so, and it always freaks me out tremendously. The weirdest part is that I kinda have started doubting the accuracy of my memories, particularly my ‘encounter’ with the whistling man.

48. Middle of the night visitor

SJKim:

About 4 years ago I went on a cruise with my best friend. We partied, gambled and shopped all over Mexico. One night I passed out from drinking a shit ton of vodka and around 2-3am I randomly wake up out of a dead sleep to the patio door opened. I look over, see that she’s sleeping and get up and shut it. I was half asleep but still thought that was weird because on cruise ships, you have to literally slam the door and it automatically locks from the inside. I fall right back to sleep. However long later, I wake up AGAIN out of a dead sleep and see a mangled, bloodied man standing at the end of my bed with his head crooked to one side. I thought I was dreaming, blinked and it was still there, staring at me. I throw the blanket over my head (because that would save me) and made myself go back to sleep. In the morning, before I can say anything my friend said she woke up in the middle of the night because the bathroom light and faucet were on. I freaked out and told her the story. I have never had a paranormal experience but I swear on EVERYTHING, I fucking saw that. After getting off the cruise, I looked stuff up online and come to find out, the boat we were on has a lot of paranormal activity and a lot of people have fallen off or commit suicide. I always get chills thinking about it.

49. The Watchers

kane55:

The summer between my freshman and sophomore years of high school a friend of mine and his family moved in with his grandma. They were buying a house that ended up having to have some work done on it so his grandma invited them to live with her while they waited for the house to get finished. She had a beautiful, big house and it was just her and my friend’s cousin that lived there so there was plenty of room. My friend’s cousin was two years older than me and was going into her senior year of high school.
The house’s living room had a vaulted ceiling with floor to ceiling windows on all sides. It looked amazing, but gave you no real privacy. It wasn’t a big deal though because the house sat about 500 feet off the road and had woods surrounding it on all sides.

Shortly after my buddy and his family move in I went over on a Saturday to spend the night. My buddy’s room was small so we decide to sleep on the two couches in the living room. Just as we are getting ready to go to sleep about 1am we see someone walk past the window outside. We freak out. We get his dad who shuts off the lights in the house. About 100 feet away in a tree line you can see a small red light as two people pass a cigarette back and forth. They are just standing there watching the house. His dad calls the police then opens the front door and yells and the two guys take off. The police find nothing over there. The woods are full of little game trails so there is no telling where the guys went.

The interesting thing is that there are only three houses within about a mile of this house and none of them have older kids. One has very small children and the other two have no kids. So we have no idea where the people came from.

A few weeks later another friend and I both spent the night there. The three of us walk into the living room at about 10pm to watch a movie and there is a guy standing looking in the window. We freak out and he runs off. Again, we can see the lights of the cigarettes in the distance.

Over the course of that summer there were multiple encounters with “The Watchers” there were three places they would come and stand and we never could forecast if they would come or where they would go. They would knock on the windows, once they shook the front door so hard it set off the burglar alarm. At times we would just see them in the tree line watching the house. Once they took lipstick and wrote “Hello” on the window.

During the day we combed the woods trying to find them, but never could. We thought it was likely guys from our school trying to catch a glimpse of my buddy’s cousin in her bikini or in her underwear because she was hot, but it would have been a hell of an effort just to maybe catch a glimpse.

We never found out who it was. Eventually the house my buddy’s family was buying was fixed and they moved. Who “The Watchers” were and what they wanted is still one of the great mysteries of my life.

50. Footprints

_sakmeat_:

Most memorable unexplained event in my life happened while snow shoeing a few miles away from a small north eastern town in Oregon. The sun was just up and there was a fresh layer of snow about four inches worth. The forest was quiet, eerily quiet. It was one of those places that just makes your hair stand on end. I felt someone, something, was watching me. At this point I turn around to head back to my car only to find a fresh set of human size prints right behind my own. Scary part is that the snow is about two feet deep and these prints were only pressed in a couple inches, there was only a right print and it only occurred in intervals of ten feet or so. They started from no where and ended near where I had stopped to turn around. What the hell was following me? Thought Catalog Logo Mark
