Fake Pilot, Real Talent: Former Air Canada Captain Flew Passenger Jets For 17 Years On A Fake License

By

Geoffrey Wall, 59, retired from Air Canada in 2025 after a 27-year career and what looked like a clean run to the top. Peel Regional Police now say almost half of that career was a fraud.

According to the force’s “Project Icarus” investigation, Wall was promoted to captain in 2009 without ever completing the Airline Transport Pilot Licence required for the job. From there he spent 16 years flying wide-body jets, 767s, 777s, and 787s, on more than 900 domestic and international routes, with tens of thousands of passengers strapped in behind him.

He pulled in close to $3 million CAD in captain’s pay during that stretch. He also rose through the Air Canada Pilots Association and served as Chair of the Master Executive Council, the union’s governing body. Police allege he even filed a false police report claiming his pilot documents had been stolen to help cover the scheme.

The thread finally pulled in March 2025, when Transport Canada flagged anomalies in his licensing paperwork during a routine evaluation at Toronto Pearson. Peel police opened a criminal investigation in January 2026 and arrested him on June 1. He now faces seven charges, including fraud over $5,000, two counts of uttering forged documents, three counts of possession of a counterfeit mark, and public mischief. His first court date is June 29 in Brampton.

Air Canada says it pulled him from duty immediately, audited every other pilot on staff, and found no other issues. The airline notes Wall held a valid commercial license, passed recurrent training every six months, and cleared an annual check ride with a Transport Canada examiner. Deputy Chief Nick Milinovich compared it to a family doctor performing brain surgery in the back office.

He retired off the 777 last year and took a part-time job at Georgian College in Barrie, coordinating a program for military-connected students. His bio there called him a “veteran pilot, aviation leader and mentor.” The page came down the day the charges were announced.

900 flights. Tens of thousands of passengers and zero incidents. Would you feel safe flying with Geoffrey?
