6 Dating Rules We Really Need To Get Over
I thought this rule was something people only talked about in 90s sitcoms but turns out people still do this.
1. The 3 day rule
I thought this rule was something people only talked about in 90s sitcoms but turns out people still do this. Why though? If you had a great time on a date and want to talk to the person you don’t need to wait 3 days. Obviously, don’t blow their phone up like a psycho, but feeling like you have to wait 3 days before saying a word to them is pretty silly.
2. You have to wait until X date to have sex
Whether you bang someone after the first date or after the first month you should be able to make that decision and both people should respect each other afterwards.
3. You have to be best friends
You already have a best friend, you don’t need your significant other to play that role. Obviously, shared interests are important but if the person you date doesn’t have everything in common with you that doesn’t mean your relationship is going to fail.
4. You’re supposed to tell each other everything
It’s important for people in a relationship to maintain a sense of privacy. Keep each other on important decisions, big events coming up, etc but certain mundane details about life don’t really need to be shared.
5. You should learn to love everything your partner loves
But what if they love playing intramural soccer every week and I love reading gossip magazines while getting a pedicure? There should be compromise but people shouldn’t be forced into activities or interests they really don’t care about.
6. You should stick around even if you don’t feel attracted right away
This is really stupid. If you go on a first or second date with the person and don’t really find yourself attracted to them or get that “feeling” – you know the one I’m talking about. Then why would you stick around to see if it will grow? Trust your gut instinct you two aren’t meant to be.
