This Mom Called A Gay Bar For Advice When Her Son Came Out And The Bartender’s Response Was Perfect

Kara was working at the bar on January 19 when she received a call from a woman who obviously had never been there before. But what could have been an awkward call ended up being a truly heartfelt moment.

Kara Coley, a bartender from gay-friendly bar SIPPS, probably thought she’d seen it all in her 17 years of bartending. After all, there are only so many things that can happen at a bar, right? But earlier this year, she had one more experience to add to her list of things that happened to her as a bartender, and this one is probably much sweeter than the rest.

Kara was working at the bar on January 19 when she received a call from a woman who obviously had never been there before. But what could have been an awkward call ended up being a truly heartfelt moment. She posted the full conversation to Facebook:

Me:Good evening Thankyou for calling Sipps!
Lady on phone: Is this a gay bar?
Me: well we are a everybody bar but yes mostly gay.
Lady: can I ask you a?
Me: sure
Lady: Are you Gay?
Me: YES MA’AM
Lady: What was the one thing you wanted from your parents when you a came out?
Me: Umm
Lady: My son just came out to me and I don’t want to say anything that may mess him up in the head.
Me:well I think that you should just make sure he knows that you love and accept, wait do you accept it?
Lady: well Umm yes if that’s what he wants.
Me: You should definitely let him know that you love and accept him! I think everything will be ok from there!
Lady: okay well thank you.
Me:you are very welcome and good luck!

Okay, you have to admit, that’s pretty sweet. Some parents honestly don’t know how to react when their kids come out, but you have to give this mom props for trying. That right there is love.

Of course, people on Facebook were completely touched at the exchange and applauded both the bartender and the mother for how they handled the situation.

Honestly, I wish all parents were this invested in supporting their children. The world would be a much better place if they did. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
