Why didn't we think of this sooner???

If you’re as obsessed with “13 Reasons Why” as I am, you probably haven’t been able to stop thinking about the show since you finished binge watching all 13 episodes  — and yet, you probably can’t bring yourself to go through the emotional rollercoaster of starting it again.

But here we are, friends, and we’re about to put you on that rollercoaster all over again. Buckle up.

~ Spoilers ~ ahead. You’ve been warned.

So remember that soul-crushing final episode that leaves almost everything up in the air? Just in case you don’t (but like, how could you forget?), let’s recap: Clay tells Mr. Porter about the incriminating evidence against Bryce Walker, Tony gives Hannah’s mom the tape audio files, and each of the students on the tapes are brought in to testify how their actions affected Hannah. That is, every student but Alex, who we later learn was in critical condition because of a gunshot to the head. And that’s exactly what I want to talk about.

The thing is, not only do we not know whether or not Alex survived, but we also have no idea what exactly happened to him. We’re left to assume it’s a suicide attempt, especially after Hannah’s whirlwind story and Alex’s obvious guilt because of it. But what if he wasn’t trying to kill himself? In fact, what if he didn’t use the gun at all?

Honestly, this fan theory will make you rethink everything you thought you knew:

I mean, think about it. There was that really bizarre scene where Tyler looked down at his own personal arsenal that he kept hidden in his room. And the last time we saw Tyler and Alex interact, Alex wasn’t exactly friendly to him. And then the most incriminating scene of all: when Tyler was in the dark room, looking at photos of all the people who had been listed on Hannah’s tapes, and decided to take Alex’s picture down. Why? Possibly because that was just his first target.

Are you freaking out yet? Because I’m freaking out.

I didn’t like the idea of a second season at first (because what if it ruins it?), but now I need answers. You know what to do, Netflix. You know what to do. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
