After the resounding success of the post-inauguration Women’s March on Washington, the march’s organizers are on to their next project: The Day Without a Woman strike.
The organizers are calling on all women to support their rights by resisting. In an Instagram post, they wrote, “In the spirit of women and their allies coming together for love and liberation, we offer A Day Without A Woman. We ask: do businesses support our communities, or do they drain our communities? Do they strive for gender equity or do they support the policies and leaders that perpetuate oppression? Do they align with a sustainable environment or do they profit off destruction and steal the futures of our children?”
The Women’s General Strike will be held on March 8, a date significant for being International Women’s Day. The idea is to send a message to industries around the country: women matter, even to you.
The organizers ended their post with an inspirational message to the women who plan to participate. “Remember: this is a marathon, not a sprint.”
