Just So You Know, The Only Way To Truly Heal Is To Let Go

“The truth is, unless you let go, unless you forgive yourself, unless you forgive the situation, unless you realize that the situation is over, you cannot move forward.” — Steve Maraboli

When holding on is no longer an option, we must learn how to let go.

Let go of people and places that were once an intricate part of our lives. Let go of idealistic expectations and tactless assumptions we create in our minds. Let go of the illogical idea that in order to be beautiful we should fix the flaws that make us stand out. Let go of resentment and bitterness that keeps us from sleeping at night. Let go of trying to please everybody around you and start pleasing yourself first.

Let go of any self-sabotaging behaviors or thoughts that hinder your growth. Let go of anyone who makes you feel like you are unworthy of love, because you are. We all are.

It’s time to let go of the life you think you should live and start embodying the life that you desire to live. Just simply, let it all go.

Letting go isn’t about forgetting the past, it’s about forgiving it. It is the subconscious choice to let the past consolidate you, not consume you. Forgive someone who wasn’t sorry. Let go of hate and anger. Free yourself from previous grudges.

I think the biggest reason we resist letting go of something is because we’re letting pieces of ourselves go along with it. We need to let go of things that hold us back from living a fulfilling life. The things we’ve identified with for so long, that they just feel normal to us. The more we resist letting these things go, it’s likely we’re bound to repeat the same mistakes over again.

I noticed a major shift in my thoughts when I finally found the strength to let go of something that had already let go of me. We always realize this when it seems like it’s too late, and we’ve exhausted our emotions on something we realistically should have parted ways with a long time ago.

Relish in the pain. Let it hurt, then let it go. The only way you’ll ever fully do so is if you let your emotions go along with it. For once, don’t be strong. Moments of weakness are a wonderful thing because they show us how strong we can truly be. It’s okay to not be okay sometimes. Sometimes letting go takes so much more strength than holding on ever could. And that’s such a deviating realization I’ve recently come to terms with.

Have faith in the idea that letting go is just an indication that something better is on its way. The end of something good is the beginning of something great, so stay patient. Stay hopeful. Stay resilient. Stay strong. One day you’re going to thank yourself for letting go of something you once thought you could never live without.

All the broken pieces will form together and it will all make perfect sense as to why letting go can give life back to you. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
